Another 6BRA Tightens at 31gn

A friend of mine shot this hasty load test yesterday in average conditions as he needed something to shoot at 500m tomorrow(wind has been relentless for weeks here), it’s only 100m and 3 shot groups but there’s no doubt 31gns of H4895 is a great starting point!

Cheers Rushty

Edit: interesting to note that he shoots 107gn Siearras which usually prefer a jump in a lot of guns I know of.. this one preferred jam, which a good number of BRAs prefer.

That sure is a VERY narrow window!!! Two tenths either way and it opens quickly. I never base anything on just 1 shot or 1 group.
Would like to hear results.
Good luck and good shooting.
Yes that is a small window, it’s a quick test for a club match tomorrow at 500m so he had something to go with, we’ve all been waiting to do some load testing here in WA but the wind hasn’t let up for weeks. The barrel is just run in and he’ll be doing full load development in better conditions at distance. Just interesting to see that 31gns work with little fuss.

Are you referring to ADI 2206H mate? I'd hate to see what 31gr would do in my rifle. I've backed it off to 30.34gr to hit the 2970 mark. 31gr would probably net me around 3030.

Yes mate 2206H.. I’m only getting around the 2970 mark with that charge from a 28” 8tw Barrel and 105s.

Fair enough mate, I'll be back in Perth next week but I hear you regarding the wind, it's crap!

So how did the 6mm go at 500 metres?

our mate didn't go that well but conditions for the shoot were crap.. windy as switching around and not.consistant and mirage was in early to.. even the last lot of my fire forming rounds didn't do.as good as before

I got down to range early.today waiting.for the wind to die down but then the mirage came in .. but I shot anyway as I was set up haha.. put target at 200m and had scope set on 25 power. I shot 4 shot groups over labradar 2206h/H4895 and 105gr hybrids .008 jump 28inch 1:7.5 twist kreiger .236
30.4gr avg 2923 fps ES 9 SD 3.9
30.6gr avg 2941 fps ES 20 SD 9.3
30.8gr avg 2956 fps ES 15 ..3rd shot got a false reading of 8120 fps haha
31gr avg 2971 ES 11 SD 4.9
31.2gr avg 2991 ES 15 SD 6.5
31.4 avg 3006 fps ES 17 SD 7.4
31.6 avg 3030 fps ES 19 SD 8.3
I got slight ejector marks from 31.2gr onwards.
the were slower than my other test?
but couldn't tell alot in groups from mirage

Bad time of year to be shooting, now two ways about it. Conditions in Sydney were pretty damn ordinary, warm and VERY humid, between 60-70% and ground temp was showing 42c. Tried two different loads (different powders) in my 280AI during some very switchy cross winds which left a lot of shooters frustrated, but a bit later on the wind became a bit more predictable with a right to left crosswind. Pulled the 6mm out and cleaned the target over a 15 shot string shooting a 90.6. Ran 31.34gr of RL15 behind 105gr VLDs. Raced through the stage to take advantage of the wind while it was consistent. Couldn't be happier with how the 6BRA is shooting. Now if only I could get my 280AI to run as well...6BRAI 10Feb18.jpg

Not so good Willow... as Comagutsa said conditions were less than ideal, and possibly he's just a S--- shot...

I will be helping him sort a load once weather gives us a break!!

Nice work with the BRA mate gotta be happy with that.

You'll have to let me know when you're hitting Pinjar range, I've been meaning to go for a drive and take a good look at it in action now. Very happy with the 6mm mate, it's such a fun cartridge to play with.

I found the complete opposite about 107smk's. In my 4 6mm br rifles (6xc,6br,6brx,6 dasher) they all hammer 107smks .007 past the kiss mark (soft seated in lands). I find ES/SD are better and this also helps with bullet alignment.

They shot well in my BRs to but around the 10 jump.. jam was mediocre. That’s why we need to test seating depth with each new Barrel..
