If you shoot mainly at 500 and can also test at that range have you tried doing the ladder testing method at 500?

yes i can but no i haven't , i have tried a couple of ladders at 400 and 500m before on other barrels and i just seem to get lost in test results so that's why i end up shooting groups haha
but i might give it another go and use these results to narrow it down

Update coz I can haha
Well 29.9gr of 2206H/H4895 and 103gr copperheads were crap at 500m.. Had about 2 inch vert.. Tried 30gr in perfect conditions and had about 4inch of vert. Just wasn't happy at all
So I tried benchmark 8208/IMR 8208 XBR and shot at 200m with 005 jam

The mirage and wind came in on last group. so I am going to test 30.9gr and do seating again
But I thought bugger it I will try 2208/varget as it was in my head
The mirage and wind was in (coming from behind flicking left and right) Had scope on 30 power coz of mirage and just picked constant conditions and rattled down on groups
I went from 31gr to 31.8gr in 0.1gr increments and trust me to not load 31.9 and 32gr Again 200m and 103gr jammed 005. Speeds were 31.7gr 2960fps ES 6 SD 3.5. and 31.8gr 2975 ES 12 SD 6.

So I'm going to test both a bit more and see what happens
If these turn out no good I will try 107gr serrias MK as we can't get 6mm bergers here because berger are that far behind on orders for Australia it's not funny.. Like over 12months and the supply is a trickle from berger.. Not happy

My BRA never would do well with H4895. 31.6-31.8 of Varget and a 103 VT jammed .004 is where it all came together.

Dammit stu how many times have I told you to not force barrels to shoot what they dont want! Haha go get some 107 sierras and feed it mate. I still have my reamer sitting here not used. Really dont know if I can be bothered to be honest

What did your 500m group look like ? Are you positive it wasnt a condition thing?

Last weekend at williamsport when I was in the pitts I watched everyone sight in, and when they called for record string they almost all shot 6"+ low, and had had a bunch of vertical. From shooters that normally dont. Conditions can and will get you at distance.

If you can get your hands on some Senars they shoot pretty damn good also.

yeah thats where mine is looking like i think .. wont be able to test for another week as im back up at work but will let ya know for sure

yeah mike 1st few rounds were excellent with no wind and i had 1 group under 3 inches and others were about 3 to 5 inches and just wasn't doing it

Good deal. I would say then your group is "tuned" to 200 yards. This is something I have also experienced with the BR-improved. Generally if I am suspicious of this, I will shoot a couple of the good 200y groups at 300 for a comparison to see whats the most consistent through the yardages. If it prints well at both, thats the winner. It may not be the tightest 200y group, but if its decent at 200 and 300, that should be a winner. 300y tuning requires more patience with watching for consistent conditions. Most of us are shooting for 1/2" consistent 5 shots at 200, and 3/4" at 300. If it does both, it usually groups well from there out.
