Annealing till glow or 750??

Check out the video by Erik Cortina on annealing. He is one of the best long range shooters in the world. Not very technical but it may make you feel better about heating until orange glow.

Do a search on YouTube.com for Erik Cortina. I enjoyed everyone of his videos.
lol. Thanks Webster. Quite an old post. Bought a amp several years ago. Threw the tempilaq away. Much easier. But will watch the video you posted. I enjoy his videos. ;)

Temperature AND time is the key.
I use an induction annealing machine and am able to use Tempilaq on the outside of the case. The ONLY reason I use Tempilaq is for my own peace of mind knowing nothing was annealed too far below the shoulder. Tempilaq really isn't useful for knowing if I achieved the optimum amount of temperature AND time for consistent neck tension and consistent shoulder bump during sizing. Takes more than 750 degrees to properly and consistently anneal a case fast enough to keep the heat from migrating down the case body. 750 degrees is when the brass begins to anneal.
The necks of most of my cases reach well over 750 degrees, and definitely begin a dull red glow for a fraction of a second before the machine shuts off.
This is one of the best videos I have seen from a metallurgist about annealing and brass heating temperature. Hope it is of use for someone.
