AGS Brass Annealer

I ordered one on Saturday, and it arrived on Thursday (almost Amazon fast!). Decided to try it out on some 223 brass for my PRS trainer. I started with 150 once fired Hornady cases. Experimented with least consequential brass, in case I totally flubbed something up. Used something I can replace (have a lot of). I quick set it up on my welding table (I was playing with fire). Spoiler alert....the cases are still hot when they drop into the tray.
I got my propane torch I use to light my smoker. Nozzle was 5/8", not 1/2" like the torch holder. No problem, I've got another one, an auto igniter. It's too big too. I must be the only person on the planet with propane nozzles bigger than 1/2".
Made a new nozzle clamp (holder), no big deal.
I set everything up and realized my propane tank is 3/4 empty. I didn't want to run out half way thru so I turned the flame down and moved it closer. Bad idea, don't do that. The cases will spend too much time absorbing too much heat. Plus the max time is 10 seconds.
What I did was, crank up the flame and move back and it spends less time in the flame and only the neck and shoulder are annealed.
I'll shoot them next week if the temp stays <110 and it doesn't rain :)
It works a charm. I would recommend ordering the extra nozzle holder to have two torches and get the riser. Save on shipping. The thing is real well made; heavy duty. JMHO

no instructions included??
how many can you do at one session?? will it overheat motors with continuous running of hundreds of cases or do we need to limit the time or # of cases?? videos are a great resource.
stan
Stan, sorry for not having instructions made and included yet. Somehow I presume everyone knows how to use one :) I dont think you will overheat the motors with hundreds of cases, so go for it :)
Cheers

Very nice write up,lot of good information !! You should post more often !:)

mine is working fine. i put a sleeve over the torch holder post, and leave the torch clamp loose enough to allow easy tweaking once torch is lit. this unit is compact and could be used with vehicle power or a small battery (old motorcyle battery maybe?) for loading (reloading) at the range if desired. i didn't measure but i doubt it draws even 15W (less than an amp).

If someone was wanting to make this a twin torch set up how hard would it be? Is a second torch holder available?

I purchased the 2nd torch post and holder when I ordered my annealer
It was ready to install when it arrived.
Unfortunately it’s been riding around with me fixing air conditioners in the Texas heat so I haven’t finished it with torches to try it but I’ll get it going this weekend for sure!

have done approx 600 so far with zero issues, once i got the timing correct on the flame. the spacer idea on the post for the torch holder to simulate different size cases is a must for setup. not sure i would not get the option for the double flame right off the bat to save on shipping, it is only 19.95 and if you want later you have to eat the shipping. probably make my own to see if i can get double the speed?? not really an issue with the one, you can get 6-10 per minute as it now sits. very well made and have tried all the inserts to check all the boltface sizes. do have to use a spacer system to raise the unit from the bench for the taller cases but no issue. also use the plastic bins from harbor freight to drop the cases and then i can stack them to the side and out of clutter so i don't dump them all over the place LOL.

I'm very happy with mine. For a simpler solution to adjust flame hight for case sizes, I just used a small hose clamp to slide up and down

I ordered the AGS annealer and got it about week later, great ! I got it with the second post and tried with two torches a bit. It was too intense for me as I'm used to anneal with one torch. So went back to a single torch.

Annealing 6BR, if I put the nozzle lower and have a slight angle in the flame, the wheel doesn't get hot at all. That's good.

The sleeves system is a great idea. The brass rotates with no runout and I don't have to adjust the wheel or anything.

Having the torch nozzle firmly attached to the post was a bit of a hassle for me. I like to be able to adjust the flame position freely. So I quickly made an adjustable stand for my torch. Once set, I fine tune by rotating the bottle and sliding it on the table.

The AGS is a great machine, at a very reasonable price.

Thanks Stefan !

I am thinking about providing torch heads with the unit in the future, to ease up the setup. But I am not sure about bottles available in US - in terms of connecting - I can supply ones with CGA600 thread.
Can some of you please tell me are those common/available?
Thanks

Not an expert on threads, but this is probably the most common disposable propane bottles used in the US for hand torches. Based on this link, it’s 1-20 UNEF thread size which SHOULD be the same as cga600. I’d test one out before buying in any large quantities.
