Aftermarket actions

You might enjoy looking at Big Horn Rifle actions. Looks like a Savage done right. Mark Chanlynn and Steve Goddard. Chanlynn is not as well known as he should be for cut rifled barrels. I want one. Kelbly is also top drawer. We have 3. They have the advantage of phone order barrels. Whatever chamber they've got. Just screw it on your Stolle, fireform and go.
Shooters Corner has a lot of used Stolles.

Just to add to the confusion, don't forget about Glen Harrison's (the original Nesika Bay guy) Defiance actions. I love the 1 pc bolt & they will make it almost any way you want it. There has gotten to be an amazing number of good choices available - we are blessed, if not confused.

Joe is correct.Glen, Lisa, Jeff, and the whole crew are great folks. They just moved in to their new place just a few miles up the raod from me in Columbia Falls, MT. I stopped in a week ago to see the work that they are doing. WOW!! I was impressed.
Whatever you need I am pretty sure Glen and his crew can do it for you.
My next action will be a DEFIANCE. The BAT days are gone!!

Bat makes their VR anf HR Rem. clone actions in SS. They cost the same as the surgeon and only a bit more than some of the others. You can also get an intigrated pic rail and recoil lug.
Russ haydens shooting supply usually has one in stock.

If you go with any of these you will be happy. What kind of stock are you going to put on it? Is it going to be tactical or target? Are you going to be shooting off a bench/ belly, or any where there is going to get a lot of dirt and other stuff in the action? If so, I'd go with Surgeon. From what I hear they are the toughest.

Hey All,
When you say one piece bolt are you talking bolt handle integral with the body or the head/body as one piece.Savage has the 2piece head/body, sells actions alone and seems to be more accurate than you would expect. Big Horn is the same done custom. Nesika is gone. Don't know why but I'm glad to see the same guy back with Defiance (is that a hint?). Nesika actioned rifles are not any cheaper used than the others. They were the first ones that had a machined integral bolt handle. Don't know how neccesary that was or if anyone else did that
We all got likes. How 'bout some (more) reasons

Thanks
John

For those who asked; I talked with Jeff at DEFIANCE and they will not be making multiflat actions at this time. The only flavor is ROUND.

Another nice feature of the Kelbly Atlas is the trigger hanger. If you need to service the trigger, you can just drop it out the bottom of the stock rather than taking the barrelled action out to remove the standard cross pin retained trigger. For a hunting gun this is a big plus...no need to rezero after having to remove the barrelled action for trigger work.

Ten years ago, we were scrounging 700's and/or buying new rifles to pirate the action from. Now, you can pick up the phone and order a quality 700 footprint replacement from Borden, BAT, Kelbly, Shilen, Stiller, Pierce, Defiance, etc.

Pretty good time to be a rifleman..... :) -Al

Hear Hear, For riflemen it's a golden age. Wish I could buy one of each just to encourage them (the makers)

There was never a bad time to be a rifleman my friend. Only now it's easier to be better.
