Accurate Shooting or Accurate Cost?

Oh heck no, hence the smiley. I sold my last Rem 700 this spring after it sat for 2 yrs.
Just as I was joking, you and richardo were making assumptions.

The emoji doesn’t show up the same on my phone, and I don’t make assumptions with anything written on the internet.

point made!

yes they do believe it.

factory remington 700 consistent in the 3's

how about posting a target with 5 five shot groups that average in the 3's
Already have, both in 06' and 6.5.
Never claimed bench rest accuracy, but all my cheap ol factory rifles shoot 1/4 minute of a dead animal.
Again thanks for everyone's help in getting them there n making me a better shot.
To quote the sheriff in cool hand Luke.
"There's sum men you just can't reach."20170829_123555.jpg3 shots not five, in the hunting game , you get 1 shot. Just saying.
Stock rem700 cdl 30-06 180gr partitions.
Now I'm headin to post office to send money out for some Berger to choot outta my run of the mil P.O.S. remington.
I'm out, BC'z

never ment to be offensive. i have those rifles too! my point was there is no need for $1000 powder scales or annealing machines or neck turning or custom dies for this group of rifles. they work just fine with standard reloading tecniques. i certainly don't use benchrest tecniques with my hunting rifles. more components and trigger time will make you a better shooter than fancy reloading equipment.

Oh I'm not offense brother, just trying to convey my point.
I want a custom so bad I can taste the gun oil n burnt powder.
I can also see OP's point.
We all want accuracy, or we wouldn't be here.
I know when to shut up n just soak in the invaluable info., and who to follow closely hanging on to every word they post.
I also know where I can go just cut up n bust ballz. "Creedmore thread"
Now I really do gotta go to post office.
No offense taken, hoping none given.
BTW, after this hunting season 06' well be getting a new barrel, trued action, and trigger. God willing and finances a manners stock to boot.

Depends on the need and type of shooting. Take a look at this thread:

http://forum.accurateshooter.com/threads/amazing-display-of-f-class-ftr-shooting.3956745/

Guy with a factory Savage and a prefit barrel shot an amazing 60 shot match at 300 yards with of all things a 223.

May not win anything at a BR match but it set a new national record in F-TR.

i built a savage with a prefit shilen barrel that shoots like this consistently. good barrel is the key. with all the reloading tricks. $1200 in the rifle and thousands in reloading equipment.

of course the bolt lift and trigger options for savage leave a lot to be desired

Many shooters here do not have unlimited funds and would like to get the most precision for their money. Sometimes saving a little money can be greatly facilitated by a suggestion or comment from another forum member.

No one should need help when cost is NOT a consideration ;).

well here is my two cents worth on inexpensive precision. buy a savage target action, a prefit savage heavy barrel from NSS ( i recommend a 6BR in 8 twist) and a benchrest stock. carefully inlet and bed the action in the stock.

$500 in the action, $300 in a barrel and $300 in a stock.

buy a lee collet die and a redding body die, a method to measure powder accurately and consistently, buy lapua brass and the best bullets you can afford. 30 gr varget and the 105 gr range of bullets of your choice and let your target tell you what to do from there.

I believe he stated 5, FIVE shot groups...not one 5 shot group.

sharpshooter supply dogtracker is what i used. they have others. fit like a glove.

northland shooters supply. i used a shilen the criterion are a.little cheaper

well with SSS i wouldn't get in a hurry. you will just frustrate yourself. i have had a lot of work done there. for a bench gun no doubt their evolution trigger is the best savage trigger out there. Fred does awsome work but at his own pace. it is just him and his wife and they get overloaded. it has given them some bad press but everything they have done for me i have been more than pleased with.

now we are talking about budget guns here. savages are very accurate but nothing you can do will overcome the bolt lift for a true bench gun.

Gentlemen.......a newbie reading this would have picked up some very good info. Many dollars ago I read this site every night (and still do) to gather as much knowledge as I can. I wanted to learn forming brass and the folks on this site graciously provided me with the knowledge to get there. I am no bench rest shooter just want to get the best out of my equipment that I can. Oh and get some good laughs. Best Site on the Web!

And I stated 1 shot 1 kill. I'm going to range at end of week to burn some powder n empty some brass in anticipation of my bergers, I'll shoot a target just for you.
Would it be ok if I use my harris bi-pod and my sand filled shot bag. I don't have that fancy bench rest stuff.... Yet

whatever works for you. many shoot better off a bipod than bags and rest

You don't need to convince me...it will serve no purpose and I wasn't making the statement to be negative. I was just stating that the other poster asked "how about posting a target with 5,five shot groups that average .3" and you posted 1, 3 shot group...thought maybe you didn't understand what was asked. No doubt that your rifle is plenty accurate and will harvest most anything you point it at.

Ben,
Cost is a HUGE part of shooting. So why shouldn't we try n save some coin wherever one can. Hell alot of folks shoot on a budget.
Dosent mean we don't want the best accuracy obtainable with what we have to work with.
And as for adolescent banter, let me break it down for ya as best I can.
With all the headspacing, shoulder bumping, case/bullet/ primer weighing, kernel kuttin, seating depth, ladder shootin, for group and score threads till my head is gonna blank like a pierced primer. Its nice to have a few threads where guys can be guys n just hang out and shoot the shit. How else we gonna get to know one another?
1 last thing, I was a pretty good shot before I got here, but now I'm better, because I've
benperfecting my loading/shooting skills
ON A BUDGET.
Bc'z
Don't take adolescent banter personally, Not directed at you or your friends. I understand that is all in good fun. It's directed at negative comments and complaining about things that could be resolved with action not words and complaining. I thought facebook was a better place to cry about things that they are unwilling to change. They have the power to change them but are unwilling, it seems, to step up. Sorry if it was taken the wrong way. I think you guys a funny too.
