A copper remover test

I heard the guy that used to be the original owner is dead from that stuff.

I followed up with Montana Xtreme about this, here's what they said:

I checked around to see if there had ever been some type of myth that would have caused your fellow shooter to say that. I have even checked with the ballisticians in the lab, and they have both been here for close to twenty years; using Copper Killer on a daily basis. Copper Killer was acquired in around 2005, not exact since I was nowhere near at that time. Your fellow shooter may have been either thinking of the Prop 65 warning that seems to be on many products just because California thinks it should be, or the fact that you need to have ventilation when using it. As one of the ballisticians/gunsmiths said when I asked, because of the strong ammonia smell, “you can’t stand to breathe in enough for it be harmful.” He also stated that there is nothing in the solvent to cause problems. If you would like me to send you a copy of the SDS for Copper Killer, just let me know. But, thank you for asking so you could get a clear answer.

Must have been the Montana EXTREME 50 BMG. That stuff is dangerous.

I think the caution of 'use in a well ventilated area' is what requires attention.

I'd not try huffin' any solvent if it were me.

I presume you mean their copper remover. I believe you, but just out of curiosity, what copper removing products did you compare it to? Trying to learn something here. Probably going to order a small bottle.

Boretech Eliminator. You don't need two products. It does everything.

I concur to an extent. The BT carbon remover on a bronze brush as the initial step will get the majority of fouling out of the bore. I then follow with BT Eliminator on patches. Using the pure carbon remover does not cause the oxidation of a bronze brush that Eliminator will thus making the brush last longer. Every 400 rds or so I will use BT Chameleon gel on a stiff BT nylon brush and that gets some of the stubborn stuff out but cleans out easily with a couple of wet patches...I've come to grow fond of it over the last few years.

Never seen anybody use sweets at a br match. Military guys used sweets, steel core bronze brushes, and 3 piece rods with mismatched joints because thats what they were issued

I love Sweets. I don't use it at a match as at a match I am only interested it keeping new carbon knocked down. But when I go home and clean for real every barrel will get Sweets ovrnight 2 times. I have taken numerous barrels guys be lived were clean and showed them they are not free of copper. I watch guys at matches using literally a hundred patches striking various products back and forth and just shake my head.

Ah... That sounds right.

I only use Boretech Eliminator and Flitz abrasive on Butchs patches. That's all I need to clean any barrel.
