90 Day Cough??

Has anyone else around here picked up a case of one of these nasty respiratory virus's going around this year?

I caught a case of the crud a month ago and the cough was so bad I thought I was gonna tear my ribs loose. After a week of it I went to the doc to see if anything could make it easier on me. They gave me the various swab tests, and I was negative for the Rona and other stuff that was diagnosable. Called it acute bronchitis, and sent me home with a scrip for prednisone, and some kind of cough pill.

Well, I've had it for a full month, and thought I might be getting better when BAM! The whole thing slammed me again and now I'm every bit as bad as I was in the first week. Can't lay down to sleep without coughing my guts out, today had a 102 degree fever, and I guess tomorrow I'm going back to the doc. -- and I don't go to the doctor lightly.

Now -- in the course of having this crap for the last month, I've connected with several folks, some good friends who are going through the same. I've been told that they are calling this "The Ninety Day Cough". Anybody else suffering with this, or heard about it?. jd

Years ago I had bronchitis for several months. took me forever to shake it. it took me about 4 or 5 different tries of different antiB. to kill that F. I didn't like taking all the different antiB, but that is what it took. I felt like Doc Holiday.

bronchitis can very easily lead to pneumonia (been there once) and if you have a fever that would certainly be one of the symptoms. I'd get in to see the doc and unless you really trust whomever you're seeing, get a second or third opinion. Not sure about down there, but up my way there's no shortage of quacks.

Hope you get to feeling good sooner than later, it's sage rat season ;)

Have your doc take a bronchial culture for a Fungal infection.
It will not incubate in a culture intended for anything but Fungal.
Often overlooked and can have the same symptoms.
Can not be fought with antibiotics.
It is not a 5-10 day fight.
Easy to pick up from the air or animal enclosures.
Dust, chicken shit, acid rain from chemtrails.

My kids had it, but we live in South Texas. Don't know what the hell it was, none stop horrendous coughing. I even sent for the oak trees in my yards to be totally trimmed to avoid the pollen drop. Then cough went away.

i had bronchitis last year and like you said I thought i was gonna cough my insides out. After awhile I went to the ER and they gave me a steroid and antibiotics. they did the job and i got better that time. in the past like you i had to be almost dead before id go to the ER. Now at this age I figure if i need to go to docs i will. You should to. I find doctors these days are under pressure from the big medical groups, which most of them work for, to push our treatment down the road instead of treating us to begin with- dont let them do it.

Not likely, just a FWFW, but I've read whooping cough is showing up again in certain locales. But most folks our age have been vaxed for it.

Sorry to hear brothetr. My wife and I as well as my brother, had the exact same thing happen to use in the beggining of winter. I was given an antibiotic that did nothing just to be sure it wasn't bacterial. Was given an inhaler and Prednisone. The low does Prednisone over a 10 day period helped a ton! But the cough held on for about 2.5 months for all of us.

One thing I will say, and I don't care if people think I'm soft for it. If I have an issue that lingers for a few days to a week, I got see my doctor. Id rather be safe than sorry. I pay out my ears for my health insurance. I take advantage of it when I can.

your not on your own jds holler, we have it over here in the uk, ive been coughing my ringpiece up matey hope you get better soon bs

There is one virus that sometimes comes post covid called reactive airway . I had it & it lated about 7-8 wks. After about 3 weeks of this I couldn't take it anymore. Every time I would try & talk I'd start with a nonproductive dry cough. I finally went to the Dr he prescribed prednisone for a week. It helped a little, but when the steroid wore off, came right back again. I called him & told him I wanted to try a steroid inhaler. So he gave me one, flovent & it helped the most. Now, know more cough after stopping flovent. I sure don't want to get that again. Not painful, but extremely irritating. Hope you guys don't get it.

For the past 20 years i would get a cough, it would start sometime in January and last 6-8 weeks, very annoying for people around me then it would just go away. A few years ago I had some Heart surgeries one of which they went in through my right side may have opened up my rib cage a Bit. Anyway I coughed so hard the emergency room doctor said i coughed part of my lung through my rib cage. That is a whole other kind of hurt right there. Anyway this is the first year I haven't had any kind of cough.

I don't know what to tell you for the fix . Mine just went away after 3 weeks In December . First time in my life I blacked out and did a face plant , hit my head on all kinds of chit !

The Pollen release does it for me. Then cool weather stops it then it starts again when it warms up.
Then cutting shrubs smoke screen does it again.....

I had COVID in February, it knocked me on my butt for about 2 weeks. I had a lingering cough for several weeks, but it gradually it began to ease.

Now allergies are not in full bloom and the misery continues. I have to time my shots at hogs between coughs and sneezes. The varmint hunting is so bad and weather so awful I have had only 4 shots at hog in the 2024 campaign thus far, so the coughing hasn't been a big factor. :(

PS: Adapt and overcome!

One of my sisters in Phoenix had something like that that lasted for a long time. She said her cough was bad at first, then it eased off and lasted for ever.
