7-6.5PRCW load data

Ran a seating depth test yesterday. Lapua brass, 183 smk, h4350 cci 200. Started at +10 and went deeper 5 thou every 5 rds. Stopped at 5 thou off bc it was all pretty much 1 hole. For 20 rds my velocity was 2872, 5.2 sd and es of 14.2. Pretty impressed with this cartridge.

Shout out to a guy who knows his way around a lathe. On my 2nd of 5 Barrels that @Alex Wheeler chambered up for me and after a good bit of testing this barrel tuned in right where the first one did, right down to the seating depth. Right around ~53 grains of H4350 or ~55 grains of N555 in necked up and neck turned Lapua. Both shoot equally well in a 32" Krieger 8.5 twist @ 2895 FPS. w/ 180 Hybrids. Won our midrange club match yesterday with a 600-39X in some switchy conditions. 2nd Place was a well tuned .284 Shehane that is hard to beat and knocked me into 2nd Place last month...

Makes life easy when you have a great machinist...and your tune up aint too shabby either.
Congrats Sir.

I found no difference in turn neck brass Vs unturned brass. The ADG is nice to skip the first step
and the necks are the same thickness as my turned neck Lapua so i can use the same bushing and not turn the ADG...All in what you want to do...it all works...both shoot great.

Nice shooting Jeff. Do you prefer the H4350 or the N555 in this cartridge? Which did you shoot to win this past weekend??

Hey Dave,
Thank you. I’ve been kind of alternating between the two and haven’t 100% decided on one over the other. I have some RL16 I’ve been meaning to try and hear it’s similar to h4350 if not slightly more temp stable. N555 looks like maybe getting hard to find?
I shot the N555 this past weekend.

My experience tells me RL-16 is nowhere near as temp stable as H4350. I’d test it for yourself.

Just looked at an older topic of about a 7 Sherman and they were having very good results with H1000.
{this was in the days before N555}
Has anyone tried this powder in the 7PRCW?
I ask as I am about to embark on this cartridge and only have access to 4831SC, H1000 or H4350.

Some of the guys are having great results using 2209(h4350) in Australia with 180hybrids doing approx 2860fps 52.4-52.8gn.
H1000 or 2217 has also been good but for some reason the h4350(2209) seems to hold up better consistently. if your using 184s I think the 2217 will be worth a try with them..Its super kind on barrels to.

Thanks Mate,
I am using the 184's as I brought back 1'000 on my last trip back.. {you do need to get the paperwork right, B709 and all..}

Also new to the 7 PRCW, running N555 184gr Bergers. Virgin Lapua brass. The 2 rifles identical speed 2885fps. Seating depth test. RG is red rifle and GG the grey rifle. Last target at 200m. Super happy with the rifles

As DannyK has said ... alot of us (Here in AUS) are all finding the same load with 2209 / H4350 at 52.5-52.7 ... Im using 52.6 with WRE Primers and last weekend was SD of 4 over 35 rounds ... 180 Hybrids.

Brand new 22” 9twist Bartlien carbon barrel. 180 berger, adg fire formed brass,
H4350, 9 1/2 rem mag primer
Bullets seated at touch BTO 2.433
Brass base to shoulder 1.646
Is this on a short action ? Just curious as to the COAL, freebore and jump from touch? Thanks
Around mid 2900s and up is when issues will come up. You can push them over 3k with no signs. But its wont live there. The faster burning powders will give issues sooner than slow. So if your running 2950 with rl23 or N555 you may be good, but probably not with rl16 or 4350. Each barrel will be a little different though.
What freebore would you suggest if using a short action and mag with max OAL of 2.955” ? And what speed would you think would be obtainable with a 24” 8” twist barrel using 180 hybrids? Thanks. I’m just trying to do the math compared to my 6.5PRC using 147 Hornady’s for speed and F lbs.

Wanted to circle back with an update. I'm running 32" Krieger 8.5 twist barrels chambered up by Alex with his reamer, .319 No turn necks w/ neck turned Lapua. I'm on the second barrel now. I originally started off with around 53 Grains H4350 and it shoots well but pressures up quicker. 55.0 Grains of N555 has been the easy button with 180 Hybrids in both barrels (2895-2900 fps) and w/ 1200 rounds on this barrel have not had to move the seating depth. Started with a light .012 jam. I planned to shoot one more match and spin on a new barrel but it shot so well I'm going to shoot one more with it. I've always found these barrels like to be a little dirty and I'll foul in with 50 rounds during a practice session the day before. ( I'll post a picture of the first relay on Saturday after 50 foulers: 200-18X ) I use this day to test my tuner settings also and find any adjustments to be very small if any. This is a very forgiving cartridge that just does what it's supposed to so you can focus on strategy and reading the conditions. Had a great time and pulled off another win at our local CTSA Mid- Range club match last weekend. We all had a special treat when Speedy was there with Bret Solomon and made a little video of Brets new rifle w/ some footage from the match at the end...
