I agree. That being said, where can I get a reamer and a set of dies??When a new cartridge comes along theres a learning curve. Even with the BRA from the Dasher. Very similar cases but 15 years of Dasher experiance goes a long way. So this will be the same way. Im confident that its a better case but it will take a couple years for the data and experiance to catch up. The 284 has been used for a long time and is the easy button for now. The prc case uses the same powders and bullets. Its very close. Which was the point.
I don’t think guys shooting competition are going to get hung up on a bolt face difference. They’ll just buy a new bolt from their chosen action manufacturer or have a whole new action/rifle made. Just my thoughts. I think the 7-6.5 PRC will be a great cartridge.Mag bolt face, not easy change from 284. Way more 308 bolt face bolts in existence.
If you're using 4350 class powders I doubt a AI version would give you much more anyway since you are already a long way from compressed with that powder class. In fact it may reduce its effectiveness with 4350 due to lower case fill percent. 4831 class powders would likely see a more noticeable benefit and actually make that a pretty juiced round.IMO the PRC. The 7 saum is approaching too big for a competition round. I think you will find that its a little more touchy on the tune than a 284 and barrel life drops off quite a bit. The PRC will be closer to a 284. The reason I didnt improve the PRC case is to keep it closer to the 284 in capacity. But only time will tell.
I think it also depends where you shoot, and it's country specific. The fact you have unlimited sighters and generally shoot 20 shot strings in the US makes sense why the 284 and this variant of the PRC would be more effective than a 7 SAUM. In Australia it's a different story as we get 2 sighters and then it's down to business, with most of our strings being 2+10, or 2+15. For this reason the 7SAUM rules here, with energy limit restrictions in most states ruling out the 300WSM. The 7SAUM can run the 180gr class bullets at a comfortable 2950fps which keeps it under our energy limit restrictions. The 284 is certainly very popular, but at our state and national level matches, if you're not running a 7SAUM, then you're probably not going to win.Which will be, a "Better" 1,000 yard round,.. the 7mm PRC or, 7 SAUM ??

It’s not very temp stable, so for F-Class with 15-20 shot strings plus sighters it can have velocity swings when the barrel starts getting hot. Also, the tune can come in and out depending on the conditions over the course of a few days. For a hunting rifle it works good if you understand the velocity change with temperature. What about RL-17 in the ACKLEY version???? I use RL-17 in my 284 for 100 fps more velocity
