7-08 with 120 solids ???

Curious about anyone's experience with the Barnes 120 BTX bullet ? These aren't made anymore but I have a bunch for my 7-08. Curious if anyone has any experience using them on deer. Seems like 3000+ is obtainable and out to about 300 yards, they'd be a killing machine. Maximum expansion I'd expect.

That's interesting you say this. My first option was getting some 130 TTSX for my 308 and giving them a try. Then I realized I have a bunch of 120/140 Barnes hollow point solids (BTX) so figured I'd try them first.

Varget be my first choice... I'd start at 42 gr and look for pressure signs around 44 gr.

If you want more speed, you can try H-414 / W-760 (same 2 powders), start at 46 and work up to 48 ish.

If it doesn't show any pressure signs and the velocity isn't up to par (should safely get 3,000 fps w/ H-414/w-760 before pressure signs), you can work up a little higher accordingly.
