Thanks that’s some good ideas, unfortunately previous owner has passed so that’s out but I will try and track down a new piece of Lapua 6ppc brass!The best way would be to do a cast of the chamber. But I would first try to back track the ownership. Or see if a new piece of brass, preferably old Gold box Lapua will go in the chamber. Assuming it wont take a .0005 of it and try it. When it will just slip in you will have a point to work from.
unfortunately all brass and reloading supplies was sold before I got offered the gun and a member was dealing with the widow. I’ve had it out of the stock and no stamps anywhere. As for the small hole gauge I’m thinking a old friend may have one of them and a barrel vise/ wrench so that’s another great idea! Thank you guys!!!Bodkin,
Can you go back to where you purchased it and ask about brass availability for the rifle you purchased?
Just a primer will be enough to swell the brass out to the chamber? Or put some powder in it? I’m sure that’s a really stupid question and I’m sorry I just don’t know.Fireform a piece of brass without a bullet. The outside diameter will be close to the chamber size.
Good starting point;Just a primer will be enough to swell the brass out to the chamber? Or put some powder in it? I’m sure that’s a really stupid question and I’m sorry I just don’t know.
Thank you sir! That all makes sense and sounds easy enough!Good starting point;
Springback?Fireform a piece of brass without a bullet. The outside diameter will be close to the chamber size.
Yes. Usually .001 or so is what I see.Springback?
Bore scope looked good, 1:14 twist, .262 neck is what I came up with firing a turned round in the gun. The neck was .260 before being fired. Thanks for all you guys help and advice I truly appreciate it!I suggest you borescope the barrel, if it has any issues at all ( if it doesn't look almost new ), do yourself a favor and just replace it or have it set back.
Regards
Rick
I’d take the barrel off and use either my 3pt bore mic or a telescoping bore gauge to measure it directly. But that’s just my preference based on my tools at hand.The best way would be to do a cast of the chamber. But I would first try to back track the ownership. Or see if a new piece of brass, preferably old Gold box Lapua will go in the chamber. Assuming it wont take a .0005 of it and try it. When it will just slip in you will have a point to work from.
So 262 is no turn neck???262 is a normal 6ppc size.
