the loaded rounds i measured were 271-272 with lapua brass. Not at all. It leaves .003 to .004 clearance.
What are you using to measure with? That's not a typical number for Lapua brass, ime. Drag out a good actual micrometer and see if that agrees. Too many people expect calipers to do the job of a micrometer. They are two different tools, for two different jobs. Even the best set of calipers are for roughing something in and are more user dependent, too. A mic is used when you need to be precise. Resolution and accuracy are very different things, as well.the loaded rounds i measured were 271-272 with lapua brass.
Normally a micrometer will read a tad less than calipers when measuring brass. What are you using to measure with? That's not a typical number for Lapua brass, ime. True enough, especially at the blades. I just measured a piece of Lapua loaded 6br brass. With calipers, it measured .268 -.2685. With a good micrometer, it was repeatably .2695.Normally a micrometer will read a tad less than calipers when measuring brass.
Same as I'm getting on my Lapua 6mmBR loaded round brass before turned. My 6BRX has a .272 chamber neck.I get .269-.2695 on some i just checked before turning
I feel like thats too much clearanceTimely discussion for me. I just got a reamer drawing from a maker and their std 6ppc reamer is no nck turn and shows 0.2765 for the nck.
You will be moving the brass quite a bit without turning. That's what I was thinking

No turnbart,
your 600 yd record, shot with turned or unturned necks ??
Thanks for letting me know. Seems to be many steps either way you go. But I’d rather have no turn necks. If you are considering trying a no turn 6PPC there are a few drawbacks to consider. First I had to have my neck in my full length die opened up. The Diameter inside the die was too small and was sizing the brass. The same thing for my bullet seater. It also had to be opened up. Also had to modify my Case holder for the Giraud trimmer. The no turn necks were too thick to go though.
So there is some aggravation in going with a no turn in the 6PPC.
Nice to see the perspective of one who is the "real deal". I can't help but wonder if it is your skill level that makes imperfect necks seem less important? It all does show in the groups, though. This goes against a lot of conventional wisdom but I run no turn brass in my 6BRA and 6PPC. I use Lapua brass. I’ve seen no ill effects from shooting unturned brass. My guns are highly competitive and just put up a 2nd and 3rd place finishes at the Super
Shoot.
I’ve also turned thousands of necks over the years.
