6PPC neck turn???

I just bought a used 6ppc. I’m new to benchrest centerfire rifles/ especially wildcats… the barrel has no markings, how do I tell if it’s a no turn neck chamber or if the brass will need to be neck turned???
Thanks

The best way would be to do a cast of the chamber. But I would first try to back track the ownership. Or see if a new piece of brass, preferably old Gold box Lapua will go in the chamber. Assuming it wont take a .0005 of it and try it. When it will just slip in you will have a point to work from.

Thanks that’s some good ideas, unfortunately previous owner has passed so that’s out but I will try and track down a new piece of Lapua 6ppc brass!

If it came with an action wrench, strip the barrel off and you can measure it with a small hole gage, if you have access to one. I definitely do not recommend trying use use gage pins! Get one stuck in there even a little and you will be hating life.

Bodkin,

Can you go back to where you purchased it and ask about brass availability for the rifle you purchased?
unfortunately all brass and reloading supplies was sold before I got offered the gun and a member was dealing with the widow. I’ve had it out of the stock and no stamps anywhere. As for the small hole gauge I’m thinking a old friend may have one of them and a barrel vise/ wrench so that’s another great idea! Thank you guys!!!

Fireform a piece of brass without a bullet. The outside diameter will be close to the chamber size.
Just a primer will be enough to swell the brass out to the chamber? Or put some powder in it? I’m sure that’s a really stupid question and I’m sorry I just don’t know.

I’d take the barrel off and use either my 3pt bore mic or a telescoping bore gauge to measure it directly. But that’s just my preference based on my tools at hand.

All of the other suggestions I’ve seen are useful and valid too. What matters is you don’t chamber or fire a live round with less than .002 clearance.

Edit: I should have paid more attention since you solved your problem.
