6mm Creedmoor - thoughts and experience

I'm building a 6mm CM rifle. AP Solus action. 7.25 twist Brux (29") barrel.

Plan is for Lapua brass + CCI BR2 primers + Berger 109 LRT Hybrid bullets + N555 powder.

Comments? Advice? Experience?

Mostly for fun. Max 1k yards.
6 Creedmoor is a great cartridge and will serve you well up to 1000 yards. I recently replaced a barrel on mine at almost 2200 rounds. Lived its life at 3025 fps with 108 Berger BT'S. My new Bartlein 26" 7.5 twist is shooting 115 DTAC's and H4350 around 2890 with good results. I live in the somewhat windy desert southwest and the DTAC's help me with wind calls a bit better. I don't think you can go wrong with the 6 Creedmoor.

Careful with which chamber you select. The “match” chamber has a very long throat. A little too long for even DTACs IMO.

Maybe you're talking about a specific "match" reamer but I remember talking to Dave Kiff w/PTG years ago about "match" chamber reamers and he told me they generally had less freebore then SAAMI spec.

There are a number of really good options out there for shooting long with a 24 caliber but one that just seems to always shoot well and has always been extremely easy to dial a load in for is the Berger 105 Hybrid.

The Hornady 109 ELD-M has one of the highest BC's of any 24 caliber bullet and ELD-M's have always been a bullet I've had very good luck with making shoot well right out of the gate too. I played with the Berger 115's a little in a 6-06AI a number of years ago and they were ok but never could make them shoot as well as the 105 Hybrid.

My 6 Creedmoor is my most accurate gun I have built. (I got 6.5 CM, 6BR and 6.5CM stock savage 12)
My build is a Savage Model 12 action, Criterion heavy barrel and 108 Bergers, 40.2 gr H4350, Starline SP brass and a Boyd's AT one stock.

Do you ladder testing on your loads to find the node. My best node was at 2985 FPS. Barrel life so far is 1300 rnds and still shooting

Not bragging but......

I've currently got two 6mm Creedmoors. Fantastic cartridge. Extremely flat shooting with extremely low recoil. I'll always have one in my safe.

Rifle #1 - AI AT-X, factory 26" Bartlein 1:7.25 twist. Running 3,060 FPS with 41.0gr H4350 and 108gr ELD-Ms. Accuracy is subjective, but I've recorded it multiple times shooting small.

Rifle #2 - FN SPR, 26" CRB, 1:7.5 twist. Runs 3,040 FPS with 41.0gr H4350 and the 108gr ELD-M, or 3,040 FPS with 40.6gr H4350 and the 103 ELD-X equally well. I knew it was going to be a shooter when my first two groups breaking in the barrel were 1/2 minute and 3/8 minute with factory Precision Hunter.

Any advice I'd give is that you'll find out quickly whether a bullet will shoot well with it or not. Don't go chasing small accuracy windows just to get a specific bullet to shoot. If you aren't happy 50 rounds in, change bullets.

I've got one built off a Vanguard action, 27" BRUX Sendero 8 twist, MBM 3 port beast brake, McMillan A5, and Timney set at 1.5#. It's my dedicated coyote rifle with 108g ELDMs at 3050fps. It shoots very well out to 1K and hammers coyotes.

Factory RPR. Alpha SRP, CCI 450, 105 Nosler cc, RL19. 12 rounds was my complete load development. Still can’t believe how easy that was or how well it shoots.
