Another .243 vs 6XC vs 6mm Creedmoor discussion

I wanted to try a 6XC. However, confusion around the XC vs XC II, reamers and clickers had me going in circles. Tubb is very prescriptive about what he used and wasn't sure if those components would always be available. With that said, I went 6 Creed. I don't know that I'm sold on it either other than to say factory ammo is available if that's your schtick. I've always been impressed with the 6XC on paper and may try it or may go the other way and try a 6GT.
I’m in the same boat you are. Want a xc but scared of the mishaps that could happen. Went 6 creed also

I believe you may be confused. 6xc was originally formed from 22-250. The 6xc2 reamer is for those who wish to form brass from 308 based cartridges, as those are slightly larger at the .200 line.
Trust Me, I am NOT confused about, ANYTHING,.. 6 XC. ( Yes, I do KNOW that, it's Parent was, the .22-250 rem )
8 to 10 years ago, there WAS a Ton of Confusion to, "sort thru" and, I've "studied" MOST of, it before ever embarking on putting together, a $2,100.00 precision Varmint, Rifle, in a New Cartridge.
Tubb Version ONE, Norma Brass and, Forster Dies = NO "Clickers", NO, Problems and, Amazing accuracy !

Yup T'was, a SAD, "Mess" about, all the Rumors, disinformation / thoughts and Bad, decisions, made by some !
It took a while, for me to sort thru, the Mess, to arrive at, the Tubb Version One chamber, but a couple of Guys on HERE, told me, the straight "Dope" on the 6 xc ( I can't remember who, anymore ) BUT, I trusted them and, Jim at Northland said that, his Barrels, HAD, the Right, chamber Reamer and Free bore for, the bullets, I wanted to use.
I took a "Chance" and hit, the Jackpot,. IMO

I don’t know what ever happened to 6mmAR.com. The information used to be there. I actually had the 6XC ll chamber. I had the print and reamer for it and the Redding die set for it. It was nothing more, it was the 6XC. It just had a slight more clearance. Like.0005. Had more clearance in the neck and a longer freebore. It was a 6XC. I used Norma brass in mine and there was no difference it is the 6XC just had a little more slightly more clearance and a longer freebore that worked great with the 115 Berger. I shot 105’s and 115 dtact’s in it with no problems. You actually wouldn’t know any difference in it.
It had nothing to do with making brass from 308 cases. Everything to do with performance. It worked very well as I said no difference and you wouldn’t know any difference from any other 6XC shooting it.
It was my understanding that D Tubbs was who created it and or was dimensions he was working with, now if that’s not true I never knew that. But from someone who has a tight chamber and have also had the 6XC ll chamber I can tell it’s all still the 6XC. I’m just going to say I haven’t been on this site or been shooting much past 6 years or so but seems like y’all got off track somewhere or a lot has changed I’m unaware of. If I was building a new 6XC for 105’s or 115 DTAC’s I’d look at D Tubbs site for the chamber min .104 freebore being I had the 6XC Il I wouldn’t be scared to go longer on the freebore. Plus I should have the reamer here for the chamber I run and wouldn’t mind doing another with it.
I’m sitting on 500 115 DTAC’s the High BC ones. I’ll shoot em.

6 X was originially formed from .243 plunging the reamer 1/4" short. The 6XC was a modification of that. shoulder angle/final length, etc.
Yes, the X was. The XC came afterwards and was a reamer spec'ed by Tubb. Compare the reamer prints between the original Tubb reamer and the 6XC2 at the .200 line. At least this is what David Tubb says about the development of the cartridge in his book.

Yes true but the the dimensions difference is.0005 had more neck clearance and a long freebore. Many shooters including myself other gunsmiths D Tubbs himself have played with the throat angles, neck clearance. Freebore and body taper. And the .200 mark body dia. It’s all still the 6XC and I always used Norma brass with out issues in any of them. I actually like the chamber I currently have been shooting it for years. It’s tight at the 200 mark, I believe it helped primer pocket life keeping the chamber tight. Has a .274 no turn min clearance. I have never had a problem with it. .104 freebore.
Some didn’t like the click at the top of the bolt lift. It’s slight and it shoots great and I doesn’t bother me. Yea it just works. I tried the 6XC2 chamber on a 1-7 twist with the 115 Berger and It was unreal accurate and never experienced any brass problems with Norma brass. So. But it was a 6XC what would you expect.
