6mm CM PRS Build

I am in the process of building a new 6mm CM (not a reloader) rifle for PRS matches and I am trying to decide on the best action to use. I will also be ordering a 26" Bartlein barrel with a M24 contour.

I am currently torn between a Terminus Zeus or a Defiance Deviant Elite. I like the possibility of hand tightened barrels
for the Zeus for easier changes, but have been hearing some issues with the bolt stop recently. The Defiance was recommeded by some of the top pros at K&M, but seems very hard to find.

Had an Impact 737R in the same configuration, had too many issues and sold it. So that is definitely not an option.

Would be interested to hear any thoughts or recommendations. Also would be interested in any gunsmith shops
to do the work if needed.

Thanks.

What do you think of the Bighorn actions?
You can get shoulder barrels and screw them on and off
yourself very easily.

I bought an American Rifle Co. (ARC) Nucleus barreled action from Patriot Valley Arms (PVA) in 6 Creed. It shoots better than I do. A few 5 shot groups in the 1s, but mostly in the 3s and 4s at 100 yds. PVA are doing Bighorn actions now, but they still sell prefit barrels for the Nucleus.

If you wanted a Nucleus you could go that route pretty quickly. They are in stock at ARC for $999 as of last week. They are Savage small shank compatible and you can order about any prefit you would want from Northland. You may want to look at using the 700 footprint long action model. You will be able to run longer bullets and chase the lands without worrying about getting too long for your mags.

If you are building a true PRS rig it needs to run dirty. In my experience, the best at being reliable at high round count in very dirty conditions are Surgeon and Bighorn.

I was actually looking at the Impact 737, could you expand on what issues you had?

Thanks for your time.

I bought the barreled 737R action direct from Impact and there were constant issues with locking/unlocking the bolt. Sometimes I would have to "whack" the bolt with my hand to get it to move. Sent it back, they fiddled with it and when returned, I found no change. It was definitely not the front action screw since it sometimes exhibited the same behavior without being installed in a stock/chassis. This might have been an isolated issue, but it didn't work for me.

I appreciate your quick response, thank you.

I only recently started to shoot prs so consider that when reading this.
I am using a defiance deviant action without any issues to date. My first comp it rain steady for hours while we shot. I didn’t have a rifle cover ( I suggest buying one) and didn’t have an issue all day.
You may want to try a straight barrel. It looks to me that a lot of shooters are adding 2-4 pounds to their rifles to help settle the rifle in and handle recoil. If I were starting fresh and building a single purpose rifle I would use a straight tube to add weight.

I wholeheartedly agree. I run the Defiance Ruckus action. If you want one, though - it takes 3 months to make it. Mine came in feeling and looking like jewelry and has run an entire season without a single hiccup. They will even get a custom serial number for you, but it adds time to the order. BTW: they offer a military discount.
When it comes to weight, more is better in PRS. I run a #7 taper on a 26" barrel and have added more than 2 pounds to the butt. I weigh in just over 17.5 lbs. When I had a 12 lb rifle is was really hard to "steady up" and stay on target.
I paired mine with a McGowen RemAge style barrel. When it wears out I can spin a new one on at home with a Savage wrench and go\no-go gauges. I actually had Defiance ship it across the valley to McGowen (like 32 miles) for mock up and fitment.

+100 on ruckus plus AW mags

Also look at deep south tactical production rifle

I currently have stiller, bighorn, kelbly, defiance and terminus. I absolutely love the terminus! Highly recommend it. That being said I am extremely happy with all the actions. The stiller is the only one I wouldn’t buy again but still pleased with it.

Thanks for all the comments.

I have placed an order for the Terminus Zeus and Bartlein barrel.

It will be going in a XLR Element chassis with a TT 2 stage Diamond trigger and NF ATACR scope.

Can't wait to try it out...

Does anyone run BAT actions? The new Igniter should be very popular in the next few years. I have a 3L for Long range, and it's super smooth. It would be worth taking a look for a new build.

Your going love it! The threaded trigger pins is excellent idea! The action just flat out works. Love the rifle! Going spin you a 6 something (bra I think) for mine as well. Right now it’s configured as a 25 creed and it’s my favourite set up currently.
