6.5 CM and 6mm Creedmoor

Not sure we are on the same page here as every good bullet maker makes some excellent 6.5 bullets that work great for PRS style shooting from Berger Hybrids, Hornady ELDs, Sierras etc.
Yes there are machine made bullets, im talking about hand made benchrest class bullets in 6.5- there are none now. But you are correct those do work great for that type shooting.

Well don't think he would be shooting either the 6mm or 6.5 Creedmoor if he was a serious BR competitor. LOL He doesn't compete at all so I am sure he doesn't need hand made BR bullets.

I thought your statement was a general one on why people tend to favor a 6 over a 6.5. Sorry to get off topic

I consider myself a serious Benchrest shooter and I have shot both in 1000yd and 600yd Benchrest. I actually spun off my 6 Dasher barrel and the 6 Creedmoor barrel back on for this season for 600 anyway, may use it at 1000 too.

All the power to you. I don't shoot that sport but just from reading this page I didn't get the feeling they were a real option but if you are doing it then maybe they are. I like both myself as well.

I'm sympathetic to the OP. I have a pair of 12FVs, one in 6.5 that seems to be pretty good, and the .223 version I can't seem to figure out what to do. All I know is that I have no use for a 9 twist bolt action, but couldn't pass up a real model 12 action for $300, especially in shootable form.

So I'm stuck in this perpetual "what do I do with my .223" paralysis-from-analysis loop. Part of me says just put on a good .223 barrel ISSF reamed and go try some FTR. Another part of me says make it a 22 creed varmint gun since I have the 6.5 and like the CM case.

I'm really tempted to go 6mm CM but keep getting hung up on having two rifles so close to each other in caliber. There's isn't *that* much difference between them. A 130 ELD and a 108 ELD will about duplicate each other from their respective cases. Wind is about identical, drop not much different.

The 105 hybrid is the dominant 6mm bullet because it has such good form factor (BC for weight). Its fast AND slippery. You can always trade speed for BC. But getting both is a good thing. The 6.5 with a 147 ELD can duplicate the windage of the 105 @3150fps if you push it 2700 or faster, which is doable in a 6.5CM without crazy pressure.

Boredom is usually a bad reason to take on something new, because whatever new you take on you'll end up bored with again.

Better IMO to find a way to make your current stuff interesting. Maybe try some premium brass or a new tube. SRP brass instead of LRP.

When I come across a creedmoor basher I press for specifics. Most of the them are so ignorant they can't make a coherent argument against it. But then again, most caliber arguments are as stupid as tire arguments. Every tire you can buy is probably the "best" under some particular combination of constraints. And perhaps also the "worst" by very different ones.
