6MM PRS PROJECTILE CHOICES?

Throat erosion measured on 3-02-2025 in 6x284 using HBN coated bullets
.010" total erosion after approx 1200 rounds
Meaning, you can go faster if you want to cheat the wind without burning up barrels now which may be helpful to 6mm PRS shooters

has anyone measured or true'd the bc of the newest production dtacs the ones that are coated with a nose ring and the rebated boat tail?

just curious to see how they compare in bc variation from bullet to bullet compared to a berger 109lrht?

just curious how they compare in overall length consistency compared to a berger 109lrht?

how they compare to a berger 109lrht in base to ogive consistency?

I have not done this.
But !!!
after taking all the measurement I did last night, I found OAL to be the biggest inconsistency in all bullets
EXCEPT for 110 A-tips (they were all perfect in every way within 001" of another and need nothing done)
----------------------
I am going to true some bullets to have same OAL and then test at 600 yds. and compare
Including some DTACS
Shoot groups - Non trued vs trued
I can report back if you're interested after I do this

Maximus any of the bullets mentioned will work fine for PRS. I used the 115 DTAC 21 years ago when the. .243 was the newer addition to the sport and it worked really well. I use the 110 ATip now but also use the 108 ELDs in factory ammo and just got some 109 ELDs to try out.

Bottom line is pick a bullet and practice. Practice will do more for your performance than any differences in the bullets.

thanks for the info brother

it seems like there may be some indications that the posted bc number may not hold up well then

if i remember correctly, it was around a .620 g1 bc

i have 1000 of the dtac's which are coated and rbt and nose ring to try

i have 500 of the 110 smk to try

i have 3300 of the 108 bergers to try right now

i don't want to be limited to what i have on hand right now

i have been out of competition the last few years and am just now setting my equipment up for next season
My experience with the 115 dtac NR is the bc is knocked down to the .279~ g7 area. Without nosering, I've seen them hold at .308~ g7. The NR is supposed to 'equalize' the bc, but it also adds drag.

Here is a link to the Bullet Measurement Comparisons I took of 13 Different / 6mm Bullets

I wonder how many of those top shooters in that poll are sponsored pros...

Pretty easy to figure out with looking at the manufacturer’s sites.

I'm pretty sure, (just supposing with no actual data), that PRS has more sponsored shooters and pro shooters than any discipline in shooting history. Or at least a LOT of sponsored shooters in the top.

If that were the case (and I have no data), copying anything they do and saying is the "best", would be somewhat disenguous.

And that rolls into my advice to the OP to practice and not worry about the bullet so much. They will all win with the right shooter. The small differences get lost in the mix and off the target if they shooter can’t do the job.

That's the problem with that site and their stats...and PRS as a whole. Prize tables and sponsors skew things heavily.

Even some of the pros and top guys will run stuff that isn't top tier....I know of a company that paid out the highest for top finishes with their product. I have no idea how that works..if you gotta be a pro or sponsored shooter or what to cash in on that type of thing...but for the price point, their product wasn't on par or top quality. You had a field of shooters running it though just for that potential check.

To get sponsored by the bigger names especially, you gotta do some winning so you aren't gunna be running stuff that isn't capable.

It's an interesting world...it's amazing to me to see other shooting disciplines and then see a national level PRS match and a crazy prize table and winners taking home what they take home.
