6BRA load data

I have an Impact 737R with 26" Bartlein 7.5 twist in a MPA Matrix Pro. I've been shooting 105 gr Berger BTHP targets with 30.6 gr of Varget at 25k off the lands for the last 800 rounds. These shoot really well, so of course, I had to try something different...just because.

I loaded some 105VLDs with the same powder from 2k jump to 10k into the lands. They all shot very well and had ES = under 20 and SD's between 6 and 7. Pretty promising.

This weekend, I loaded up some at 10k into the lands and went to the 200yd range. Started with the tuner set at 0 and this happened. I decided to confirm with another 10 and had similar results. I had so much fun at setting 0, I never moved the tuner. I'll play with the tuner in a few weeks just to see what affect it has.

Muzzle velocity on the BTHP and VLD's were the same at an average of 2881

R16 6BRA Peterson brass
33.9=2880
34.1=2905
Both of these are kinda a pain to load because of powder compression.
Not any sign of pressure
I’m going to focus on the 33.5-33.8 range that’s getting me 2840-2870 ish.

Thank you Alex’
It’s amazing what a dumb ass farm boy can learn on a Sunday morning while drinking a cup of coffee.( I’m Referring to myself):)

Jim,
I’m on my second cup of coffee this morning, and just reread this thread. But I learned something 4years later…………. Slow learner I am!

Really good info in this thread.

Reloader TS15.5 and Berger 108 are shooting well.
31 and 31.2 grains shot under half inch at 300 out of my 29” barrel. Velocity was on the lower side 2800/2822. Worked up to 32 (very limited time constraints) at 2918 without pressure signs.
Chose 31.1 grains and shot an F class match at 800. Pretty impressive day despite the lower velocity

ABC Barrel? As in Advanced Barrel Company? Carbon Fiber?

same BBL/rifle as above but took that 1x fired Peterson brass and switch to N140 and 103 VT, lot from march 2022 and BR4 primers

today was 90F and +2400 DA, 29.93 BP, 58% hum at sea level

best group was 31.36 gr, N140, 103 VT +9 = 2951 fps and group of 1.44" gross at 500 yards..nothing special

last October i loaded 31.32 gr N140 in alpha brass with cci 450 and got 2959 fps and best group

just reporting on peterson brass really

no more 4895 for me, N140 and varget, so just starting to find what it likes with those
at 500 rounds on the bbl now
here is a powder ladder also......N140, 103 VT, BR4.....31.3 .4 .5 were bunched together

Looks like a nice node at 31.1-31.3. How deep were you seating your primers?

So, you can tell a node without looking at the target?
Yes. I shoot F-class and we find our loads a little differently then bench rest. We look at ladders to find the velocity flat spots with low ES/SDs. We will load to the middle of those and then tighten the group with neck tension, seating depth or Tuner.

We are loading for a different game.

I had a switchy wind today so I dropped down to 300 yds for a seating review after cleaning, I get some odd stringing up and to the right. My wind though started from 2 ish then switched to a light head wind, I wait for the ribbons to drop but still get it.
My question for the Guru’s is - WTH ?
Is this just gun handling error or am I missing a second wind

Just opinion here but the charge is off to me. I see why you picked it, but consider the 30.8 to 31.0 charges or even a tic more. I like the pause or even the little upside down that it shows....just a thought

I’ll take a second look at that, I seated at 30.9 earlier but on that day it didn’t look any better. I’ve been to 31.2 on this reamer without pressure so there has to be more room.
Thank you.

Hey Jim

Three things.
1. Don't give up on that 30.5 load. When is the last time you measured throat erosion?
2. Try what Glenn recommends
3. I'll bet you have a node between 29.6 - 30.2. Give that a try.

Good Shooting.

Rich

Thanks for weighing in Rich,
I just cleaned and checked the throat , by my tools .002 from the original , so I moved up that amount to .008 jam although .006 still shoots pretty good. My curiosity is .008 and beyond spitting rounds?
It will group on a lower node, but it seems to move a bit and not overlapping, but it will overlap at 31.0 pretty consistently.

I dont think I’ve posted this full ladder, it’s a bit jumbled. You mentioned earlier to look at the low node.

Tested at 600 yards
Went to less neck tension and tried 31.4-.6
With BR-4, 205m, and cci 450
All worked at 31.54 to 31.6 gr

Picture is 31.6 gr N-140 103 VT +8, 267 bush, Peterson brass, br-4……came in at 2935 fps

31.5gr BR-4 was 1.29"
31.54 gr with 205m was 1.12"..........31.64 gr with 205m was 2.07"
31.6 gr with cci450 was 1.2"
