62 ELD-VT IN 8 TW?

I have a few 8 twist barrels I was planning on chambering in .22 Nosler, specifically intended to shoot the 62 ELD-VT. I now see that the recommended twist is 1-7". For those of you shooting this new bullet, can you tell me whether you have had good or bad experience in an 8" twist? Hate to have to buy additional barrels - but will if I'm running in the wrong direction with this new bullet.

What velocity do you think you’ll get from this?

Hornady box says 1:8 Twist for the 62 EDL-VT bullets.

Thanks for input. I posted this as I have heard that Hornady may have changed their recommendation on the 8" twist minimum (after initial bullets were distributed?) Interestingly, they discuss the need for faster twist in their video on their website - but don't disclose the min. twist. They also don't show the minimum twist in their bullet specs online. Because I recently read a few posts on this site where folks were not having good results with 8 twist - thought I'd get a few opinions from folks who have shot them.

I plan on building a 22-250Ackley for this bullet and sure hope the 8 twist proves out well. Perhaps some 223/556 shooters are the ones having some of the issues with the 8. I know speed can help a bit, but can’t make up completely for too slow of a twist. I rather not go all the way to a 7 twist. I’m sure most M4s are 7s and are working as Hornady intended.Im back at sea level so no more advantage like I had at 8000’. Time will tell.

I have shot them in a 7T 22 ARC and will shoot them in a 8T 223AI in the next couple of days. From the 22Arc/Grendel crowd I hear they work well in 8T barrels. The next 22 ARC barrel I use it will have a shorter FB so the 53 Vmax can reach the lands an still use more than half the case neck. The 62 is not using all of the neck when jammed so a 75-90FB might be better for me since I don’t shoot the 80-90gr pills.

I think the 53 VMAX goes down in the case further than the 62 VT. Interestingly enough.

Now, after checking my coal on both in my 22 ARC you are correct. Both use half the neck or less to reach the lands. Faxon Samii barrel which I believe has .131 freebore. I’m expecting to shoot them .10-15 off the lands so I would prefer .90-100 freebore since I don’t plan to shoot heavies.

This bullet requires a very short throat. My Tikka T3 Lite in 8 twist only has about .100 of bullet in the case when touching the rifling. This is a factory barrel given to me by a friend. But this skinny barrel loves this bullet so far. Carry on gents.

I couldn’t get them to shoot at all in an 8 twist 22-250AI

A 7 twist 223ai I have shot them well.

Well, I'm gonna try 'em.
I use a 24" 1:8 barrel for my 'match' rifle for XTC. I'm thinking to use these for the prone slow stage.
I've got a couple PRI mags coming from Cavity Back Bullets with 'windows' cut in the front. Supposed to allow 2.360 overall length. I think I can get them close to 3100 with TAC or Shooters World Match and still be less than 100% fill. If so, it will be like shooting SMK80's!

I'm not sure it has to be at the rifling to shoot. Like the 75 ELDM and 75 bthp I bet it's very jump tolerant.

Well. First try didn't go so well.
24" 1:8 twist Wylde, ~ 3100 fps. 2.350 COAL - jumping 170 thousandths. The boattail does protrude below the body/shoulder junction.
Two four shot groups.
1 group was 6" at 100 yards. The other group 4" and one shot not on the target. Assuming it made it there, it would be over 6" group. [Hard to call those groups].
I'm trying to develop a load to load from an ar15 mag with the front cut out.

Any idea what is wrong? Does it turn out that the 62 eld vt is jump sensitive?
