600 yard Registered IBS matches at the Manatee

Nice work, Steve. What a great start to the season! Big KUDOS to those individuals who put forth the effort to make this a reality.

I look forward to the F Class matches resuming, as well.

Thank you for the kind words of support.

I know the heavy equipment is at the range to start building the 300 yard prone shooting berm, starting Monday. Hope it is done in time for your f-class match. Club says it will sod it. Hope it will be done in time. Steve

Well guys, we have finally done it. First sanctioned IBS 600 yard match at Manatee Gun and Archery Club is in the book. There were 20 shooters overall, 19 LG, 16 in HG.

The weather cooperated with no rain and mild temperatures. The typical Manatee mirage was roiling a bit and we had some switchey winds that were hard to read.

We want to thank all that came out for this first of 5 match series. Some good groups and scores were shot, but the offset distance berm issue kept the scores down.

I especially want to thank the match committee for an outstanding job. Chip Willing our statistician and line boss, outstanding! Tom Anderson kept the scoring on track. Richard Prince did a great job heading up the target crew. Made mine job very easy.

Score: pdf. file is attached. The pictures show a great bunch of shooters having an even better time. The gun racks held some mighty fine examples of BR rifles. I could not find a picture of Alex Lynn who was top dog and won the HG overall. If someone has, please post here.

If you have a chance to shoot one of our matches, please PM me. They are held on the fourth Saturday of each month thru March. See the first posting on this thread for more details.

Thanks again to all that shot or helped. SteveAwards for 600 yard IBS 11-25-17.jpg Down the line 11-27-17.JPG Dr Joe small agg LG 11-25-17 .jpg Getting serious 11-25-17.JPG

Good job guys !.!.!

Congratulations Steve (@BT1) on the OverAlls.... Good shooting.!.!.!

On a note; see that a couple Remington's finished well, which is typically seen in the IBS. Shows well that they all are capable of winning, no matter what some lobby and claim. A good tracking setup, good load development, and good bench manners are what count and prevail the most.

Dana English is not the only one that though this was harder than it looked. You can add me to the list. Did my best look at figuring out conditions. My best was trash. To shoot well at Manatee is quite a challenge.

Never saw such organized scoring and tabulation. Think near anyone coming from around the country would find it rewarding to attend.

Thank you Steve, and Chip for all your hard work to make this match a big success. It is very hard to run a great match, and still shoot, and win. Great job to you, and Chip. Doug

@BT1 Steve,

That's the range all the way in back? Not the one up by the main club house?

Bart
We hold the matches away from the main line on what is called the BR range. It is a great setup with 16 quality benches. We run and supervise these matches with our own "rsos" for now. Our SOP follows the IBS guidelines even when we shoot the steel matches. For new shooters I always strongly recommend shooting the steel match before the IBS match. The steel is more run-what-brung, more relaxed. We welcome all to these matches. Steel more fun, IBS more serious.

I will be testing your new lot of your 105 bullets this week. Hope they shoot better than the VTs, but that is a hard hill to climb.

Steve

Bart, they pushed the Br range back to 600. So if you ever shot the "winds of Manatee" that the same line. I heard a rumor you were planning to make an appearance there???

Alex,

Yes I'm thinking about going!

I've shot on both the main br range up front and the one all the way in back.
January matches ive attended had horrible conditions! The match dates for short range always seemed to land on the two days of winter Bradenton has.

Hey Bart, you thinking of shooting with us? You will always have an open invitation. To shoot steel or IBS. We all need some guidance in regard to what bullets we should be using:D. Steve

We have a special arrangement with the weatherman. No Jan/ Feb cold fronts will pass thru on any Saturday, ha, ha. Well we can hope. Yes, you know they can be really bad. Steve

Thats great. I dont think you will have too terrible of conditions. As you know that back range is a really nice set up. When they moved dirt I thinnk they formed a berm on the left and filled in the cut out thats was on the right. Steve could confirm that.

What a nice day it was on Saturday. Beautiful weather (after the fog lifted) and pretty good conditions for Manatee. Thanks to everyone that came out to shoot and help run the match. Let’s do it again next month!

There is a list of people I would like to thank for all of their hard work making this all come together. Obviously Steve… without your vision none of this ever would have happened. Thank You Dave Prince (Target Crew chair), Tom Anderson (Scoring Crew chair) and all of the guys that they recruited at the match to help. Thank You Killean Colton and Dr. Chuck for inputting all of the raw score data into the Excel spreadsheet… WOW, you guys really lightened my load! Thank You Dakota Mike for writing that awesome Excel spreadsheet that does all the scoring and for sharing all of your hard work with the shooting community so selflessly. Thank You to the core group of people that worked so hard (both physical labor and guidance) over the past few months getting the range facility ready so we could do this; Steve Krauss, Larry Malinoski, Al Benarroch, Mike Branch, Tom Anderson, Doug Bell, Richard Prince, Billy (Tank), Angie Weldon, and Alex Wheeler. I’m sure I have forgotten someone and I apologize for that, anyone that thinks of someone else that needs to be recognized please add them.

THANK YOU ALL!

Chip

Right now Manatee is building a raised "road" down the right side to the 600 target line. That will allow easier cart or quad movement to the target line for service under wet conditions. They are also adding a slightly raised area at 200 and 300 yards for some F class and others to use as a shooting line.

On the left side a more reliable water drain is supposed to be dug to help drain standing water in the Summer. Should be an overall improvement. For the next week the entire 600 yard range is closed.

Just bought 500 Barts Bullets to try in my upcoming BRA build. Would be nice to beat Bart with Barts. Time will tell.

Ya, Alex. The range really is protected on both sides. Still strange things happen here like everywhere. Going to get at least 2 more NRA wind flags up before the next match. The ground level wind flags pointed in every direction except the right oneo_O. Steve
