600 yard Registered IBS matches at the Manatee

All you bench warmers that are on the fence need to show up and support these matches! ;) Thats what keeps them going, attendance! I know this will be a 600 yard hot spot in just a couple years. Theres a solid group of shooters there and very very welcoming. So if your thinking about it, just show up and watch. I know you will be back. It will be a great group to be a part of.

Thanks for the promo Alex.
The good news is that I am getting more PMs and interest in both the steel shoots and the IBS matches. 15 now preregistered to shoot this Saturday at a "club" IBS match. Most all of them from our core group. As we discussed that will be the base we can build on. We are going to run 2 relays for LG and 1 for HG. Really want to look at running our 4th and 5th match on the same weekend. As you suggested, call the 2 day match the Florida 600 BR championship. Make it an event worth traveling a bit further for. We can then put out a nice prize table. We will also start having a BBQ lunch after the sanctioned IBS matches start in Nov. I think we can do for a very modest fee, maybe $5.

Please PM me with any questions or info. Thanks, Steve

Great turn out for our last IBS "club" match at 6oo yards. Had 18 shooters in light gun. Beautiful weather 70 degrees and sunny. The rain held off just enough to finish the HG match. The "old timers" kicked butt yesterday. Great shooting by Don Giffen and Charley Brown. Lots of great guns on the line, with up to 5 "Wheeler Wonder Guns" should be up and running before our first sanctioned match on November 25th. Larry Malinoski was on the job with some pictures to go along with the scores. See attached .pdf file.

Looking forward to well over 20 shooters next month. The sloppy range conditions should improve by then.

Many thanks to Chip Willing and all the people that helped make the match a success. Yes, we had a few growing pains, but hang in there, we will keep getting better.

Steve

Looked at the sheet and there were some good targets shot at Manatee.

Had to go so missed heavy gun but hope to change that in the future. Nice id some would just shoot what they have and get the experience. To have this offered in Florida this winter season has got to be a treat for many.

Hey Alex,

You could coordinate your possible visit down here in December and shoot:D You could shoot the better of my 2 bra Wheeler Wonder Guns available if you do. All loads included. All but 1 or 2 of the loads will be perfect, ha, ha.

Thanks Stan,

The problem is that the girls usually shoot better than the guys. Kris Holden holds the 8 group agg. record at manatee when they were at 575 yards. Beware the "weaker" sex:D Some thing like an agg. of 1.750". Obviously shooting a Wheeler Wonder gun, ha,ha.

You guys get all those rifles tuned up and rent a school bus to come see us for the Nats next years :) Bring some mahi mahi!

My first is all ready to go, ha, ha. Need to have the "green jewel" in my hands before I can tune it. Now, back to work.

Now the bus to MT. We'll have to work on that.

Just a reminder: Manatee IBS 600 Registered Matches

Starting this Saturday Nov. 25th we will start the first of 5 consecutive registered 600 yard IBS matches at the Manatee Gun and Archery club. They will be held on the fourth Saturday of each month. http://internationalbenchrest.com/schedule/longrange.php Shooters should bring their own chairs if possible, as those we are providing may not be up to your standards. We have 16 quality concrete benches under a solid overhead. A few 115VAC outlets are available.

We will have 1 NRA wind flag this month set at approximately 300 yards, in addition to 2 or 3 field wind flags closer. We welcome and encourage shooters to set up their own field flags. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

Day of the match registration will open at 7:30am at the Benchrest range and close promptly at 8:30, IBS safety briefing at 8:45 and call to the line at 9:00 am.

Match fees will be $10 per rifle / per class. All shooters must also register with the Manatee Gun Club and pay the daily shooting fee. Currently that is $5 for members and $20 for guests. We can collect that fee at the BR range at a rate of $6 and $22. Covers the tax changed at the clubhouse. Top 2 places in both LG and HG will receive a small trophy in addition to the IBS patch

Equipment specifications and all other match rules will follow all current “IBS Rules of Competition”; rulebook #13 updated Jan 2016.

Some good points: High berms run the full length on each side of the range. Covered firing points and space provided for equipment under roof. Match will be held at the designated Bench Rest range away from the public range. We specifically selected these dates to follow our annual snowbird season. Why not plan on bringing your equipment and shoot while the wife and family enjoy our beaches. We will be using the custom match software provided by Mike McBride. Many thanks to him for providing and helping with our getting it running properly.

Some issues to consider: We have set up the target line at 602 yards from the front of the shooting benches. The impact berm for sigthers between the targets is at approximately 628 yards. This does create a significant difference in elevation. Check your elevation charts to adjust for on-target hits. For many it seems to be about 1/2 to 3/4 MOA. The berms are for the most part dry and hitting or missing clays is now obvious.

Manatee is one of the few places in South Florida to offer a Benchrest shoot like this. We may not be up to holding a National Championship any time soon, but I think you will find our matches run professionally and welcoming.

Manatee Gun Club has a number of RV sites with electric and water. Contact the club for information and reservations. http://manateegunclub.com/

If interested in our shoots, please PM me. Steve Krauss “BT1”

Just got the word - I will be there. Made me a happy guy except for the "no practice" issue. Expect a fun time shooting and a "funner" time watching the good guys do their thing.

Let's see some stats from yesterday?
By the way it was a great match ! Little ruff with Fl mirage, and early morning fog.
Steve you guys ran this match top notch, special thanks to Chip, he kept a very organized venue

Well I am still sifting thru the paper work, but here is the raw data. I will post a more complete match outline later today or tomorrow. Lots of pictures. Without guys like Chip Willing pulling a huge load, along with the other committee chairs doing theirs it may not have turned out as well. In addition without all the help, I would not have been able to shoot. I will post names of the other guys that stood up and also did their part. Congratulations to all the shooters competing in less than ideal conditions. Special shout out to Roger Johnson and Joe Ignacio. This was Roger's first ever bench competition so did very well and Joe is always at or near the top. "Wheeler Wonder Guns" held 3 of the 4 awards given.

Thanks Bt1, some pretty close competition taking place there! Can't wait till next month.
It's making me want to retire my old savage, need to get serious and start doing some load development with some of my new projects, it was great to see Dana English out there too, nice to have good people hanging out there.

You are welcome, but the hard work by the whole gang made it happen. Chip did an outstanding job and we will have him shooting next month.

Ya, competition is going to be something in the future. Maybe 5 or 6 "Wheeler Wonder bras" shooting at the next match. What color are "bras" supposed to be? There is still the jerk behind the trigger that makes the difference. 3 of my 4 LG groups had .5" to 1" of vertical. My first target had 4"s of vertical. What the heck is up with thato_O It's that jerk factor.

We need to work on Dana to get him to shoot. He is on the fence, so he may just need a push. Then we will all be in trouble:eek: He did comment that the 600 yard game looks harder than he thought.

Pictures to follow when I get them sorted out.

Nice work, Steve. What a great start to the season! Big KUDOS to those individuals who put forth the effort to make this a reality.

I look forward to the F Class matches resuming, as well.

great job steve and all the crew it really went smooth considering all the shooters we had and a 1 hr. fog delay looking foward to the dec. shoot hope i can get tuned in and not let my bra down.
big john
