6 creedmoor or 243

I have a ruger mkII target in 243 with a 1 in 9 twist. After over 1500 rounds it will still put 70 gr ballistic tips or blitzkings into 1/2 inch. I have hit prairie dogs at 600 with these bullets, but for the longer shots, I usually go to my dwindling supply of 105 Amax bullets. to say the least, I am a .243 fan. With that said, when I do finally burn out this barrel, I will probably go with a 6 creed, the modern equivilent of the .243W with the sharper shoulder and longer neck. If my brass was newer, I would stay with the 243 though.
Either cartridge with kill groundhogs, and as someone earlier said, whatever round has the best selection on the shelf would be your pick. When you start reloading, it is still a tossup, so what you decide now will carry over to when you get your press set up. I am sure you will enjoy either cartridge you decide on.

6 Creedmoor is the better mouse trap. I prefer it for practical purposes (hunting) to my 6BRA. And it works well enough that it's practically brainless.

6BRA is much nicer to shoot though.

I wondering if I should.just buy 50 rounds already laoded of a bullet I'd like, 105 vld hybrid, shoot it and go from there or... who knows, should I just go for the 110, or 115 and just send it.. definately want to have a hp/tipped bullet for hunting reasons.. Lets start by saying I purchased a 28" criterion 1:8 twist.

The 6 XC and Criterion Barrel are, a good choice !
A few weeks ago, Bruno's HAD, 900 Rounds of, 6 XC Norma Brass,.. it was all gone, in a week.
You'd best BUY, whatever you can, in Loaded ammo or Brass, to be,.. "safe" !
This shortage thingy, may last, a while.
You might want to, "study up" on whether, the 110's and 115's shoot "well" enough,.. in a 1-8 twist before buying some, as some people are having problems with them and going back to, the 105's thru, 108's !
I bought, the 108 Berger, Elite Hunters for my 1-7.5 twist barrel ( a combo Bullet for, Hunting / steel Targets ).

When I built the 6 Creed, I was getting ready to make a trip to Ohio for the same reason. I ended up ordering 200 rds of Hornady Black with 105gr match. They worked prefect and I havent looked back. I'm also glad I bought those for the brass as well! I did go to the 107gr Sierra Match King, but I'm a bit of the Sierra fan boy. They work great in both the 6 Creed and ARC.
Only draw back now, is good luck finding full up rounds for anything!

My preference would be to drive the snot out of lighter weight bullets for shooting at ground hogs. You don’t need those heavy bullets at the possible range you mention. The article below from years ago inspired me back then.

That is my next challenge, Mr Tubb expressed that I don't necessarily have to go full charge. I had told him I was liking the br because of recoil and he said I could still go medium weight on charge and medium weight for bullets and always have the opportunity to go heavy if I wish. Just not sure where to starr.

I have had a 243 and now I have 2 rifles in 6 CM. Mine have an 8 twist for heavier bullets and when I do my part, it is wickedly accurate! My barrels are 26" and I'm coasting 108 ELDs at 3100. Flat, flat shooting to 1000. Same bullets as in a 243, but somehow the 6 CM is very accurate. Plus, Hornady makes some fine factory ammo when you need it. I'm sure you can find plenty of 243 ammo as well. But I would re-think the barrel length but definitely go with the 6 CM. Just MHO though. Hope those thoughts help.

I have three 243s in different twists and zero 6 Creedmoors, so I may be a bit biased. I’ve been shooting 243 since before 6 Creedmoor was even a thing and I don’t feel like I’m missing anything at all.
