6.5x47 HV gun?

Evan. I shoot CRC also. I've had good luck with a 6 Creedmoor. You can shoot the 110 gr or 115 Dtacs with a 7 twist. but with 107's you get the velocity to overcome most of the wind. shot my way to High master sling shooting with a 300 win mag and 190's. Any of the good 6mm's in lite winds will get you to a 1000yds.

I loved the 6x47L it was as easy to load as my standard 6BR, it did more than a Dasher, and I didn't have to stomp the guts out my brass to do it, accuracy wise it will equal the Dasher, speed wise, it will topple it!

I'm waiting on a faster 1-10 twist 6mm HV barrel now, was going to 6mm AI chamber it, but for 80 to 95 grain I'm seriously considering the 6x47L for it as well.

After listening to the multitudes that never had one, I found it to be as easy as any caliber I've ever loaded for to put a smile on my mug! 1/4 moa with 108s in a 8 twist at 3250 fps makes me think 95's at 3400+ should be easy peasy, and I have no reason to think 1/4 moa should not be expected.

I built a 6.5x47L prone rifle several years ago on a BAT 3L action, Krieger 1-8tw medium Palma, in a nice English walnut stock done on McGee's Trudy pattern. Reamer has a .2944" neck & .123" freebore. I loaded Berger 130 VLD hunting over RL17 for just over 2900fps, and had excellent results at 1000 with it for about 1300rds, then it just stopped shooting. Had similar bbl life (what I consider to be rather short) in a couple of straight 284 Win bbls on trued M700 & BAT 3LL prone rifles. I'm a bit slow on the uptake, but won't shoot any more RL17, even though it gives higher velocity than any other powder I've tried in the 6.5x47 & 284.

Most of the 1000yd sling shooting I've done was at CRC & Ben Avery; had pretty decent results with 6x47L during any gun matches during the 2009 Berger SWLR Nationals & the 6.5x47 at the 2010 Bergers. Didn't win anything, but had a great time shooting with some great guys & gals.

They used to run LR prone weekend matches at CRC - 3x600 on Sat, followed by 3x1000 on Sun. I shot as many of those as possible in 2006-2007 IIRC. Shot Dashers at 600, and 284 at 1000. Had a great time, even though the wind at CRC was usually challenging.

I have a 1000yd range in our pasture, and so it's fairly easy to get a fair amount of load development done when farm work & weather align favorably. I've had a couple of 6.5x47 bbls that were very picky - one that I only ever found one load that shot well in it, and that was with IMR4007SSC & Sierra 123MKs. Right now, the only 6.5x47 bbl I have is for a Bighorn TL2-SA tactical rifle, and it may well be the least picky of the barrels I've chambered for this cartridge.

Sure here my notes from load development and rifle info.

Shot a load confirmation today with the 135gr A-Tips. Finally got around to testing them. Super wide node in my barrel with Varget. POI was exactly the same from 37gr - 38.2gr in 0.2gr increments. Every charge weight had single digit SD's and was sub 0.5" @ 100yds. I had zero pressure signs, no sticky bolt, primers looked great across all the charge weights.

I did a load confirmation with this load at 1000yd 5 shots and they stacked on top each other on a steel plate. Impacts measured just under 0.3moa
great build and great results.
