6 Dasher hunting gun.

Is RL15 temp stable? I’m in Canada so I shoot in huge temp swings. From plus 70-90 to -30. But I will try both to see what my rifle likes.
RL15 is fairly temp sensitive. RL16 works great in the Dasher and is one of the most stable powders on the market. But it’s bulky and you will need a drop tube.

RL15 was great for accuracy and speed, but very temperature sensitive to the point of driving me crazy during an all day coyote hunt. Varget fixed the problem, and is what I run to this day. This was before RL16 existed. Shooting under coyotes in the am and shooting over in the pm. These shots were spot and stalk and 500 yds plus. Fun stuff!! :D:D:p

R16 is a great powder, however, like Shawn said above it is bulky for a Dasher sized case. A drop tube or vibrating cases will be necessary.

I've been chasing whitetail deer in Georgia for many years. For years everyone regarded the .243 Winchester a marginal cartridge for deer.

My parents gave me a Browning BLR in .243 for my 16th birthday. I killed a lot of deer with it.

In hunting camps here in the southeast that mentality still exists - the 6mm is a child's/female/new shooter/marginal caliber.

You'll find the 30/06, 270, 308, 300 win mag, and even a few flavors of the 270 and 7mm short mags down here in hunting camps.

I've read many times where western hunters use the 6mm's for antelope, deer, mule deer, and even elk.

I guess our deer are extra tough with super powers that require more powerful cartridges than the various 6mms.

Good luck with your 6 dasher!

I've just had my BRX reamer run in my R700 22" Br barrel which already had 2800 rounds down it, plus a new 26" barrel chambers with same reamer on my Stiller.

The 22" shoots much better as a BRX than it ever did as a 6BR!

As a 6BR I couldnt get the higher node with hte 105AM so had to settle at aroudn 2650 fps. Ended up going back to 70g projectiles.

Now as a BRX its pushing the 105 out at 2900 before I get pressure signs (raised firing pin due to loose fit) Backing off to 2840 and its shooting consitanly better than it previously did as 6BR.

Suppose thats the risk of shorter 22 verses 26" barrel. In theory you only loose 4 x 25=100 fps, but you drop off the high node and have to drop back 200-300fps to find the lower node.

Have only shot the 26" with 95 matchkings to fireform, Man do they shoot! This barrel looks promising.

I am not familiar with the BRX. Still patiently waiting for my 6 Dasher to get chambered. Should be done in the next couple weeks. I do hope it will shoot good at the higher node if I can reach it in a 22" barrel. First bullet I plan on trying is the 105 Berger Hunting or Hybrid. Second one will be the 101 gr Hammer Hunter.

BR with shoulder blown .100” forward with the original shoulder angle. Same capacity and performance as a Dasher just a different shape.

It is great to see guys getting good speed out of 22" barrels. If I crunched the right numbers with a 6 Dasher and a 105; it's good for deer out to 500-550 yds. I used 2800 fps for a reference point. This is going to be a fun gun to hunt with.

The “small” 6s are fantastic white tail size hunters. Your WT are probably the size of our blesbok and maybe a little smaller than a impala but they do a number on them. For closer work the 95gr ballistic tip is devastating.

Just picked up 100 pieces of 6 Dasher Norma brass. Another question I have is what’s the best powder to run in a Dasher? I have Varget but that’s all I have that would be suitable for the dasher. What’s the most temp stable powder that produces top velocity?

I run RL-17 in my dasher hunting rifle. Tikka T-3 with a 26" barrel
3050 fps in the summer and velocity drops to 2975 in the winter with a 105 VLD. Powder is temp sensitive but it has never been a issue while hunting at any reasonable range

Never seen any African game. Would like to someday. I’m in Canada and our whitetail can get quite big. But they’re not Bullet proof. I’m sure the Dasher won’t have a problem.
