6-284

Your just going to have to experiment with it,see what the 9" twist will stabilize. But wouldn't experiment too much, burn that bbl up quickly if your trying to shoot bullets at the speed of light.

I had a ten twist Hart and ran the 95 VLD's at 3600 without any issues.

Anticipated velocity vs actual velocity vs best accuracy does not always meet.

You'll never know till you shoot......

53.5grs of Re#22 in mine pushes a Sierra 107 3425 fps . I know I have room to push it faster. I figure if I can't hit a target at that speed why would an extra 100 fps help ? It would just shorten bbl life.

My 6-284 worked out best with reloader 25 and Berger 105's. This chorno'd at 3250, very accurate. Down side will be barrel life.

i got my action today for this build and also the other vortex ring that i needed to mount my viper pst on this. now all i need is the barrel. i should be getting it soon hopefully

its just a stevens 200 long action. i havent got a trigger for it but i tuned the triger on it last night and it seemed pretty comfortable. i dont know how many pounds/oz's but it is nice for now.

the way its looking this gun is going to be rite at 15 lbs
here is the list of parts check it out for me

stevens model 200 action w/ recoil lug and nut
viper pst 6-24x50 moa
egw 25 moa base
set of vortex 6 screw rings
vortex bubble level
choate sniper stalk
30" finished mcgowan savage varmint contour barrel

should be a real comfortable gun to shoot. i dont know how the 284 case is for kick, but i am thinking the 15 pounds around it will dampen the recoil a bit.

i got my choate stock today, now if i only had my barrel.

cant believe how heavy the super sniper stock is!

i have never shot the 284, but i dont know that it will be too bad to see my own long range hits, especially with the 30" varmint contour barrel

At a 1000 yds sure by the time bullet gets there you've recovered from the slight recoil . But what about shots under 500 yds ? How much does your rifle weight ?

Yes shots under 500 would take some concentration for sure and might not be able to be done,.......15.98 lbs. If I added about 15 oz's it would help and I would still be legal.
Wayne.

i have not recieved the barrel yet hoping this week. i was told a little while ago it would have been here this last week, but noe this week. i am anxious to get it together and make up some loads. i am also waiting on some bullets to get here from precision ballistics to try in it.

What brass are you going to use ? If you go for the gusto ,you know full throttle loads . You'll expand those primer pockets and ruin your brass.............Driving up to Modoc county in No CA for the squirrel wars. Loaded up some ammo 53.5 grs of Re#22 behind Sierra 107 MK . MV of 3450 I could push faster but these loads opened up the pockets a little bit. With current brass prices its not worth it for just another 100 fps.

I will be using 6.5-284 lapua brass necked down.
I don't want to go as fast as it could go, but I would like to see some decent velocity for a 100 grain vld where I could shoot accurate, but also have power and range out there a ways.

How long is your barrel?
Are your bullets coated?
