6-284

Calib,
If you have the chamber cut for no turn Lapua then you could always run Win brass after you neck tun it but if it is chambered for the Win brass it is pretty hard to glue brass on to the Lapua brass, make sense?

Calib,
Of course you can but there will be quite a bit of difference between necked down .284 Win brass and necked down 6.5*284 Lapua brass as far as neck thickness goes, I am running late bit I probably could find some Win brass and neck it down and give you a measurement.
Wayne.

Sounds good. Thanks.

How many more steps is there to make the brass I need from 284 brass

Perfect since

I just heard back from the barrel guy and he said that they use no turn chamber reamers. The .282" was the throat i guess. I asked for a copy of the reamer diagram.

I don't think so. Just call them back and ask them what the dimension is? that should not be hard for them to come up with, they should have a print, if not surly they own a mic and can measure the ream.

I never did try Winchester brass but I was told that the loaded neck diameter with unturned 284 win brass would be less than 6.5x284 Lapua. My unturned 6.5x284 loaded neck is right at .2735-.274 with 107Smk and 105vld. This is using calipers and not a mic though. Calib the only real problem you will have with that much clearance in the neck is theoretically, over working the brass when you resize the necks. A .282 should come out with a fired neck around .281 and you have to size that back down to around .272 to load again so you are having to squeeze it down a substantial amount which is rumored to cause runout problems (less straight cases)

i found out that .282 was not the neck size the barrel maker says they use no turn reamers though so what ever that meens for neck size

i measured one of my lapua pieses and got.016+.017+.243=.276"

The Super X lot of 284 brass I have comes in at .273 +- .0005 with an 88 Berger and Lapua 6.5-284 (CB)does indeed come in at .274. I use .272 and .273 bushings (depending on brass)

I used .277 ND on mine and it workd good.....dont let any smilth/manufacture bully you into using "their" --"wrong" reamer.....tell em what you want and if they cant do it get your own reamer and avoid having a chamber that wont work with your brass and dies ,etc....Roger

ill keep all of these things in mind in the future. maybe i will deal with another barrel maker. i like this one cause thier barrels are prised reasonably i think and they are easy to deal with. i get my barrels with in 6-8 weeks they say, but i have gotten mine at 5-6 weeks.

i have only built a few rifles and love it, but maybe down the road and the further i get into the reloading and building game i will start to aquire a reamer or two of the caliber i really like.

what are all the steps to form the 284 win brass to the 6-284 cartridge?

I use CCI 200 (I think I have an exceptional lot of these as they work better than anything else in most of my rifles) but almost everyone that was helping me with mine recommended Fed 210M.

Buy 6.5x284 brass and run it into a 6x284 FL die and that's it.

This cartridge is a good shooter.I have it in a 40x it is a re-chambered 6mm Remington so the free bore is long so loading 88brg it jumps .100 it needs set back or just re-barrel it but even in that condition it shoots very well I use Winchester brass cause i got 980 pieces and all the dies to make and load still have 800 of unsized brass one person said go with a 284 and another well Carl at champion shooter in New Albany said go with a 30/284 not sure what I'm going to do but any way I use magnum primers,88brg,and 4831sc shoots very well 1.5 at 400yd with .100 jump good luck CB
