does anyone know the trim length off the tops of thier heads for this cartridge? i formed all my lapua brass now wondering what length i need to trim to?

John is correct, you should know exactly how long your chamber length is then trim about .010 less then max length. To acquire that length buy a case length gauge from Sinclair I think the part # is G-243 for the 6mm/.243 you trim a f/l sized about .100 short, insert gauge in the case and close the bolt with case in the chamber,easily open the bolt and measure the case with the gauge in it. It will give you the chamber length then you deduct about .010 and that will be your trim length. there only about $9.00 if I remember correctly although when you see it you will think you were ripped off no bigger then it is ???

Is the barrel maker also the one chambering the barrel, if so then yes, he should have a print of the reamer, if not he could do a chamber cast for you.

i just sent off the email so hopefully i will have the answer to chamber length tomorrow. even though i trimmed all brass to 2.160"

Calib, what is your chamber neck size going to be? I thought I read it in another post and sounded like a huge number. A no turn neck for Lapua brass is around .276 with a loaded neck of .274. I was thinking you mentioned around .28?

I did from what the barrel maker said it is .282" with a throat length of .58" I just found out, how can that help me. They said the chamber length is to siammi specs.

SAMMI specs 6-284 ? ???. I don't believe I've ever heard of a neck diameter (.282) that large in this cartridge before.

Jason,
I turn all mine for a .269 neck but I think the new blue box brass has a no turn of about .271-.272 loaded round which would even be worse in Calib's case.

Calib,
Measure your neck wall thickness, it should read somewhere in the neighborhood of .014-.0155 so you have a .243 bullet so say .015X2 =.030+.243=.273 so a no turn neck chamber will be somewhere in the neighborhood of what Jason told you .275-.277 Now your smith might have thought you were going to use .284 Win brass and after you neck it down to .243 it well may have neck thickness in the neighborhood of .017 or .018, .017X2= .034+
.243=.277 then a .280 neck would be in order, you better find out and have it rectified before they chamber it if you plan on using Lapua brass!!

Of course you can but there will be quite a bit of difference between necked down .284 Win brass and necked down 6.5*284 Lapua brass as far as neck thickness goes, I am running late bit I probably could find some Win brass and neck it down and give you a measurement.
