Why is it cut into that shape?
Although not as impressive as Jade's F-TR record, this 200-11X F-Open target was shot on Camp Pendleton's notorious Range 117 with my .300 WSM. It is also twenty-three shots, with sighters. F-Class rifles can shoot.

I'm more surprised it took this long before he trotted that one out... it's pretty much his one hole card for about anything.

There was a report some years back in the US Teams Long Range Shooting Forum about a GB MR touring team visit to some upland range in your part of the world - in NSW? - and the resulting competition. IIRC the longest range shot over was somewhere between 1,400 and 1,500 yards and it said that the markers reported bullets (210gn SMKs and Bergers) were still supersonic at this distance which is impressive even taking the altitude and air temperature into account.
I've looked many times for this thread in more recent times, but never managed to find it again using the forum's search facility.
The MR guys and girls have long held my admiration. I'd like to have had a try myself, but living in Yorkshire I'm pretty well midway between the two UK MR venues, Bisley and Blair Atholl, it's just too much travelling.
Edit ....... just found the range I was thinking of through the Match Rifle Australia link you put up. Coonabarabran in NSW and the maximum stage distance shot in the GB V Australia MR match was 1,500 yards. Not bad for 308 Win!

I believe it, but you would have run a Berger hybrid 200 at 2,900 muzzle V to hit 1,500 yards right at Mach. There’s a lot of transonic yardage on the way there. A 210 VLD must start even faster. That velocity is cake to reach with 155’s but I don’t know what the heavies would do to brass that warm. (155’s would be subsonic at 1,500 yards even if launched at 3,500).
Egg shape groups deserve egg shape trimming out of the foam core 2 foot square artboard. That is a work of art ain't it?
Never mind...... I'm waiting for a 20 shot group from a bench gun at 800 yards plus to show up. Maybe they're too big to go through the internet. Tsk Tsk Tsk.......

Why do you so often post that target in 1000yd discussions (like here), when its from 800yds?
You say its 20-shots plus 2 -sighters. I only count 18 bullet holes. Where are the other 4?
Betting I've seen you post that picture at least 50 times, on several forums, over a couple decades now.
Hope some day you come up with something new.

It's not always about winning. If I guy shows up with a .308 and has more fun than the guy who won, who wins? And if he did win, imagine that. I have more fun shooting my 30-06 than ever winning a match, but with a .308 you might do both.( edit
I just want to add that competition is just a form of training. Whether we do it alone or in a group. I choose the 30-06 because I shoot everything with it so I practice and train with it. I have a 6.5 creedmoor and it is more accurate, but it is not as effective for my needs, and not as satisfying for me. That is why I said, it's not always about winning.

The old Hornady 208s, 210 VLD & 215 Hybrid Bergers can shoot tighter than the 1200 2 MOA bullseye at 1200 yards; 1500 is a tad more problematic but it's a pain that ballistic theory often doesn't stand the test of practice.
For example, the Aussie 1200 yard record for a 20 shot match is 100.10, ie 50 % of shots in 1 MOA (actually, it was 1100 meters, but who would argue about an extra 4 yards) . An Aussie team member is expected to be running one of these bullets at 2650 fps plus & this is easily achievable when the throat is lengthened. It's been found that lighter bullets can't hold elevation beyond 1000 yards and heavier ones tend to punish the shooter & the gear.
Yes, Coona is the easiest accessible 1500 yard range - and they run a long range shoot there every year for Match rifle & F class shooters.

Half a stack of $100 dollar bills won from a bunch of long range benchresters that bet a 308 couldn't shoot sub half MOA groups at any range past 600. The other half stack I gave back to them to pay for psychotherapy recovering from being proved wrong.

You've narrowed the choices down to two, pretty good reasoning so far. Pick one, you've a 50 -50 chance being right. Don't feel too bad if you're wrong because people who use both once or twice a month often get them mixed up.

And 20-shot averages under 6" at 1000yds in testing (and 30-shots under 6" with his 30-338).
And says it would not be difficult for 308-Win stuff to agg under 6" for 10-shots in NBRSA-1000 .
