.308 Suitable to 1000

@JohnKielly

What's that?...... proof....... oh, now that's cool !.!.!

Bare in mind John, Bart claims 20-shots under 1/2-MOA with his 308's, slung prone with rice bags under his hand.
And 20-shot averages under 6" at 1000yds in testing (and 30-shots under 6" with his 30-338).
And says it would not be difficult for 308-Win stuff to agg under 6" for 10-shots in NBRSA-1000 .

All the same, good shooting !.!.! (even though it was just from 5-shots ;))

Geeeezeeee...... I’m getting old. Just found some data. Shooting sling at 1K with Winchester brass, IMR 4895 or 4064 and 190SMK’s. Those were the days!

people who use both once or twice a month often get them mixed up.

I think you got it right. Use it for both. Then you don't have to worry about mixing them up.:D

A finely tuned m14 is a thing of beauty. The AR is taking the easy way out. If more cats shot them they would win more. All i hear is theyre not competitive anymore- well theyre damn sure not going to win if nobody is using them.. sad really.
Fine gentleman Bamban managed some fine wins against the ar-based competition a few yrs back with m14. Perhaps he will chime in. Personally, the shootability is superior

With half the barrel life.
Haha. Yes, so let's say 7mm-08 instead for the reloader.

Or...gasp....6.5 creedmoor. :D

22lr has excellent barrel life too and you only need 300 yards to get the same ballistics as a 308 at 1000. Maybe for the budget conscious shooter looking to only rebarrel once in a lifetime, a match grade rifle in 22lr should be on the short list?

The reason more people shoot ar10 or lr308s rifles over m14 rifles is simply because of the evolution of the sport. The ar platform is less finiky and as a result you get more time on the range and less time on the gunsmith table. There is a good reason carburetors were replaced by fuel injection. The carb may be able to run as well as efi but has to have someone constantly tuning on them. Same applies the an m14. You don't see many people shooting mauser actions in competitions these days but if more people did I bet they would win more lol
