Kauger ArmsTake a look at Kruger Arms Viper338 action. It is proportioned to feed the 338LM with 300 grain Bergers in CIP mags and will eject live rounds. The bolt has interchangeable heads and I planned for the future with an inexpensive magnum bolt head as well.
Borden has the larger lugs I prefer for theseI’m guessing the new bolt allows bolt face changes
I do not. Does it stop me from using them when its the best choice? No. Are the one piece bolts better, yes.You guys don’t like the BAT modular bolt design? I honestly thought it was pretty neat. I haven’t messed with one in person but it looked like a good idea to me. Sorry to get off topic.
Alex if I may ask in what situation would you prefer a Bat HR to say a Borden on a 300NMI build and for what reasons?I do not. Does it stop me from using them when its the best choice? No. Are the one piece bolts better, yes.
Those are the 2 best options. Since bat went to a 2 piece bolt the decision is difficult. About the only thing bat has on the borden is an integral rail. But the borden is pinned so it not going anywhere. You cant make a bad choice hereAlex if I may ask in what situation would you prefer a Bat HR to say a Borden on a 300NMI build and for what reasons?
Alex - I've shot thousands of 230 Hybrids in .300 WSM. It is the most precise bullet I have loaded in almost fifty years of reloading. You noted the problem for F-Class. It causes handling problems and requires constant attention.I also have data on the 230 Berger. This was in a 28" Krieger. A little heavier platform, more like 13lb with optics and bipod. I played with this one last year. This 600 yd pressure ladder did hold up. It is the ideal shaped ladder though. That 85 grain load was extremely accurate up until I pull off the barrel. I think the 230 is probably the ideal bullet in this case, but there is a little jump in recoil.
Congratulations on your record!Hello Everybody
First of all I must tell that I have a set up with a 30 inch tube 1_8 twist with Mr Alex Wheeler design ( minor changes in neck diameter only ) using Lapua Brass and it has been an outstanding set.
I Just prompt with the Argentinian Record in our Heavy Class that it’s your light division in USA hitting consequently at 1560 meters in the last stage, the only words that I can express is thank you Mr Wheeler for your design .
Set up is:
Cadex Kraken Action/ Chasis
Bartlein 1.35 to 0.90 profile 1-8 twist 30 inch tube
Vortex Razor II
Ryan Pierce Muzzle Break
Lapua Brass
Federal Gold Primers
Local A19 powder 88 grn
I used Berger 215 grn flying at 3047/3057 fps
Temperature was 16 degrees Celsius
DA 134
Hum 80 %
Only 65 shoots down this new barrel !
I must say that the performance of this setup has been outstanding. It has enabled me to consistently hit targets at 1560 meters, securing the record. Once again, I want to express my sincere gratitude to Mr. Wheeler for his design.
Thank you all for your support and encouragement.
Thanks Alex now going to National Cup on September and Grand SlamCongratulations on your record!
Rule of thumb I use for fire forming anything is a mid range load for the parent case.Afternoon Everyone,
I'm having a 300 NMI built as we speak with Alex's reamer design.
I'm having a hard time sifting through all of this data to identify the best spot to fireform my cases, and the range of powder charges for the following combination:
245gr Berger Elite Hunters
VV n565 powder
Peterson brass
Rifle is being built with a Defiance Deviant Tactical action with integral rail and a 28" bartlein 1-8 twist barrel.
I'm pretty much stuck with the 245's for both fire forming and shooting with my twist, so that is part of my problem with figuring out where to start!
Any help on a powder charge range for both fire forming and potential top end for the Improved version would be a big help for me to get started!
Thanks everyone!
