300 Norma Improved 35 degree

So I started forming some used lapua brass , I ve run the brass throu an expander mandrel in order the case to fit tight in this first shoot , have you experience case growth about 0100/085 ? Using Mr Wheeler reamer but some neck mod ( tight but no turning), I ve used pistol powder 22 grn and some corn meal , anneal brass , 2 nd pictiré is a 2 times shoot case, shortage still hard down here , now will clean and start up ladder using 230 A Tips , I ll use 335 bushing in a Micron die, first bullets shoot were promising low SD using local H1000 style , one hole at 100, thank you all for all information in the thread

I did 3 ladder tests at 600 yards using 83.00 - 89.00gr H1000. In hindsight, I should've used a larger spread than 0.3gr between shots. Equipment used; Borden Bigfoot Action, MDT ACC Chassis, Bartlein 1:9 twist x 28" to crown, .343NK, .240FB, Hornady 230gr ATips seated to 3.750" COAL. I initially fireformed Lapua Brass with 86.00gr of H1000 and Sierra 200gr #2231 Match Kings. Thunderbeast Arms 338 Ultra suppressor. March 8-80x56 scope. I saved & printed all the data. Then, the following weekend, I shot 5 shot groups at 100 yards off a Rodzilla TRex front rest (Wood bench was a "little" shaky though). I wasn't too impressed with the info, so I'll head out again this weekend in the prone and see if I can get cleaner data with shot groups.

What were the temps and humidity like on that day?
Here in Hawaii we have similar weather as you guys do,accept less hum. and not quite as hot (85-90s)
A number of years back i was getting similar results with my 30 degree 300 norma.
Almost the same load data(82-83 gr of H1000,but running the 240 gr sierra.at the time out of a 28" Broughton 5C
IN those days Norma was the only brass avail.
Building a 35 degree now with 9 twist 28"
Will be switching to N570 .

85°F - 87°F, 68% H, Station Pressure 30.08"/Hg. Not really a fan of the VV powders; expensive, lot to lot variations(claimed although haven't seen concrete proof), and almost impossible for me to get. I looked at data for RE26 and I may play around with that in the future. Too many projects, not enough time; M40's to clone GM308M2 ammo, a 6 Dasher to tune, a new 6GT, and fine tune load development on a 308 for long range before October. I have and use; a Labradar for everything, RSI Shooting Software to get real BC's, es, sd's, and just picked up the Pressure Trace 2 system. I can post all that data tomorrow if you're interested.

I think H 1000 is a limit powder for the 230 s , I will go with R33 to test same bullet

N570 and the 230 works excellent. Watch for wide groups with Rl33, its not the wind if it happens all the time.
Alex anybody tried 568 in your 300NMAI?
I had really good like with it in a 28N and 195's and showing promise in my 30-28 and 215's

RL33 shot good with 230s around 2950 fps in my first NMI (35 deg, straightened body, Lapua brass). Played around between 88-90gr but soon realized it wasn’t going to shoot quite as good as N570 at long range.
Didn’t like how dirty 33 was either. Never seen so much soot and carbon in a barrel as I did with RL33

Hello I m actually with a 35 degree improved, I have a question I notice when you run little past by the full die ( Bullet central ones ) you could ruin brass headspace easily , do you make full lenght between each shoot? How do you set up your dies in order not to fall in that failure? Thanks

How about these groups at 1520 meters, A Tips 230 running H1000 87 grn, awesome results , had two sessions one in the morning went left corner and the other in the middle , cannot post video , great accuracy using Mr Wheeler reamer , thanks, now I m ready for the 1 st Argentina LR venue

Great thread
I'm in the process of building a 40 degree improved version.
For those of you shooting the improved for awhile what sort of barrel life are you seeing? More importantly how often are you having to re-tune your load?
Also what's the best shoulder gauge to accurately measure shoulder bump?

Purchased a Bat HR action for a 300 NMI build. After I measured the bottom port I noticed it was only 3.79 with the side port being 3.52. I have Hawkins CIP + bottom as I planned on running the AICS 3.85 mags. After asking my gunsmith about it he contacted BAT as was told you can still run the 3.850” magazines but to eject a loaded round you have to hit the bolt stop to pull the bolt out a little further. Not sure why they designed the ejection port that way. Why offer this action in a 338 Lapua bolt face? This is for a 40* version.

You can have your smith cut a notch in the side for the loaded round. But honestly it happens on many rifles I have and don’t really find a habit to eject loaded rounds. Just fired ones.

The newer bat hr has a redesigned ejection port and will eject a 4” loaded round.

It also has a two piece bolt which I do NOT prefer.

Looking to replace it with a Lone Peak or a Borden. Any suggestions?
Take a look at Kauger Arms Viper338 action. It is proportioned to feed the 338LM with 300 grain Bergers in CIP mags and will eject live rounds. The bolt has interchangeable heads and I planned for the future with an inexpensive magnum bolt head as well.
