Feed him a 125gr BT at .243 speed if you want somtehing fun or load up a 215gr Hybrid or what ever heavy boy you prefer rolling around at 2650fps for bigger stuf

H4831 or RL22 with heavier bullets than 200gr to 220gr tend to work very well in my 30-06 using Magnum primers in WW cases.

Teddy Roosevelt took the 06 to Africa right after it came out. l think he killed just about EVERYTHING that walked with military ammo. l know most every hunter felt it was more than adequate North America til just about everybody and gun companies caught MAGNUMITIS. lt fought and WON a couple World Wars in the last century along with a bunch of others. Even today its still competitive with just about any other round out to 1000 yards. lts got more PEDIGREE than the rest of the worlds' small military rounds/arms COMBINED. lts the Ford F-150 of the gun world.

I've owned a 06 since about 1974. At present I have 3. Try one & you will surely like it.

I have 30 rounds loaded up with N560 and 215gr Hybirds, Lapua Brass holding it all together and a 215M primer will get the part started, have a 1.5-6x42 S&B sitting on top and leaving for the thick bushveld Saturday morning. All dressed up with somewhere to go, the old boy still has some live left in him!

you forgot it is the grandfather of most "modern" cartridges today.

Nothing wrong with 30-06 but I would not sell you on it.

I own one enough said.

That said I own 2 300 Win Mags. 30-06+30% from 175gr-220gr. you can hunt anything you want to hunt that does not have a caliper restriction! Ammo almost as available as good old 30-06. If you want to ring steel it is not unheard of to hit at 2800 yards with 300 Win Mag.

For a 30-06 just stay away from 150gr. ammo for anything other than white tail deer that light of a load is WWI Technology and you might as well get a 308 Win.

Get yourself some Norma or Nosler 172-180gr. hunting ammo and don't look back!
