30-06 fans sell me on it

As some prob said by now, your 4350’s will work great with 150 to 165 gr boolits. I get 0.3 moa at 300 yds with 150 Nosler AB pushed by RL16 lit by WLRM primer. MV = 2911. Will kill anything on this continent with appropriate shot placement.
IMR4350 works great with nosler 200 grain partition bullets in the 06.

30-06 is never a bad choice but there are better things available.
Enlighten us on this statement. There may be other OPTIONS, but few have the versatility and functionality of the 30-06. If you are hunting elephants, then no, but there are few cartridges within the normal hunting realm that can actually be pointed to as superior to the 30-06. There are more efficient cartridges maybe, such as the .308, or 6.5 Creed, etc., but really nothing superior as far as a hunting rifle.

I have numerous cartridges in several calibers, but it is hard to beat my old inherited -06. It is far more about the bullet, than it is the cartridge that you use.

Just did some engine work for guy who didnt have much money so i asked what do you have to trade he said i have a old rem700 30-06 to trade i said what the hell why not i dont own a 30cal got home started lookin at reload data and found out that all the powders i have (slow stuff) dont really match this cartridge but with times the way they are i dont want to rack up a gunsmith bill so what can i do with it "ie" pro's and con's kind of thing
IMR 4350 most excellent in 30-06
57.0 with 165gr Sierra BT
55.0 with 180 Nosler part

Fed 210 primer in FC duplicates Fed Prem loads
Love the 30-06 since boyhood

Good i have a pound imr4350 that i dont really use for anything else just bought it because it was on the shelf

I think that the 30-06 sells itself if you compare it to all the other cartridges out there. It can be useful from varmints to elk and moose, which covers most of the game in North America.
It would be a great choice for someone that keeps only a couple of rifles around
I would also think that if, someone took the time, money, and effort to build a first class F Class rifle in 30-06, the old cartridge would present itself well on the range.

KMart, and a .300 H&H may just be better. Think Ben Comfort and Wimbledon Cup in the 1930's.

nonsense, took one every four years (when I was younger) and this one was from 250yds and squared 9'6" :)
I never hunted or shot a western /AK brown bear and therefore have zero expertise on the subject where you obviously do. I was merely going by the articles I read by Bruce Townsley about hunting the large bears and his advice on using heavy calibers for this dangerous game.

Also, my gun smith has successfully hunted them out west but hasn't taken as many as you but is a strong advocate on the heavier calibers, i.e., 338 Win and up for this game.

More power is definately good insurance. Back in the day I couldn't afford many options and the 06 was my only large caliber high power rifle. It did everything I asked of it and never did move up to the bigger guns. I've been told that I'm also a bit stubborn lol

I do not know what to say, but today we have better bullet choices in other calibers than the ole 0.308
Better rounds can be in:
7mm: 284 Win or 280 AI or 7 SUAM
6.5: 6.5 PRC
It is all about the bullet

My first rifle was indeed a Tikka T3 30-06 SS Lite and I still own it

I'm a big fan also of the 30 06. I had a Rem 700 many years ago and hunted with it. As I got older, I just couldn't handle the recoil anymore. Besides, it was more gun than I really needed for eastern white tail. But for an all-around big game North American caliber, it's hard to beat.

I went down to the 308, then back to the old 243 Win which was my first centerfire rifle. Truth is, I never lost a deer to the 243 Win IF I made the shot. Oh, I missed a few but if I made a broadside shot behind the shoulder, I never lost one. My journey into the world of the 30 -06 was caused by reading too many gun magazines that disparaged the 243 Win for deer. I was young and dumb and believed them even though my experiences with it were to the contrary.

My ex-boss was born and raised in Wyoming and had hunted throughout the west. While he never took a brown bear, he successfully hunted Mule Deer and Elk extensively as did his entire family. Their rifles of choice, the 30 06 and 270. I just don't think you can go wrong with either one of these.

However, if I was hunting something that could eat me, I might feel better with something heavier for some extra insurance. ;)

Biggest North American Brown bear killed was by a 63 year old (and very small statue) Cree lady in 1953 in Northern Alberta with a SINGLE SHOT 22 LR Cooey Ace1 RIFLE !
Dropped it on the first shot and kept loading it a handful more times for insurance. All shots went in the left side temple of the skull. 29 gr high velocity Whiz-BANG (CIL) 22lr ammo.

She didn't want to shoot the bear, but the big guy was way too curious.
Curiosity killed the bear.

Cons:
1) Doesn't sell magazines when gun writers opine on the latest and greatest new rifle.
2) Some Short Action cartridges can now match/exceed its performance as a hunting cartridge. But, the times when "modern" SA cartridge X can get a clean kill and and '06 cannot -> extremely rare.
3) Not a great choice for high volume target shooters.

Bottom line: great hunting cartridge that has taken pretty much every game animal in North America. There is a reason it is still relevant after 100 years. As long as we rely on smokeless powders and bullets, it will stay relevant.

IMR 4350 @ 55.0
180gr Nosler Part
Fed Brass
Fed 210M primer
Win 70 XTX I bought new after High School in 1979 in 30-06 and my Alaska Bull I harvested in 2012. This Rifle in 30-06 will always be one of my go to rifles. I always try to limit my shots to 300 yards or less on Alaskan game with my 30-06. I have harvested Caribou, Wild Boar, Black Bear, Mule Deer, Elk, White Tail Deer and Moose and one Carolina Bob Cat with this rifle. It has never let me down.

I love the '06 as im not a new shooter. But I like it in a classic rifle. Not plastic and stainless with a hubble on top. My '06 shoots 5x sub .25moa all day long at 100 with Big Game and 168 amax. 22in bbl 2750 fps. Good enuf for me and 300 yds.
