223 ISSF Project

I'm using WCC brass that was processed by my friend Lee Odom on his auto chain driven Dillons. CCI 450 primers.

The brass is all FROM THE SAME LOT. It was "eco Win" ammo that the FBI shot in Quantico and my buddy picked it all up. So its not multiple lots and years.

Then I will shoot some virgin Lapua and see what we see. I know the Lapua will shoot a tic smalller (as I have already done this before) but I bet most people would not see a difference.

This is the first batch. I threw powder with my RCBS and seated with my LE WILSON seater in the Harrell's arbor press. They actually seated wonderfully. Be sure to use a VLD inside neck reamer.

Even using brass from the bucket, seating depths held less than a thou of varariance.

When we first arrived at the range it was blowing from the 2 0clock at about 5-8 MPH. By the time we finished it was blowing 15-20. I was really impressed how well these little 80s ripped through the conditions.

The 22.5 load was 2776 fps. Total spead was about 15 fps.
The 23.5 load was 2890 fps. Spread about the same.

We never conclusively determined with one of the two shot better. It was basically a dead heat.

My Buddy Kip shot a bunch of groups. This was the smallest. His barrel was broken in completely. My barrel was brand new and so was my wife's.

These are my first groups after running the 5 Tubb bullets. These are 5vshot 100 yard groups.

That second one was going to be a 30 cal hole.

We went shooting this morning. Ammo was made dropping powder from the Frankfort Arsenal powder drop this time. Same bucket brass.

I noticed no real performance difference between the AR COMP though the powder drop and the RCBS.

Considering the insane mirage. I was impressed.

Remember.

We have not done a load workup at all. No powder test. No seating depth test.

Somehow the title "plinker" conjured up a whole different picture in my head...Dude! If that is a plinker, I'd love to see high tech! :D

I was trying to show a certain minimalism to the loading. And something affordable to shoot. That it doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. After all, these are all budget do it yourself builds.

I think any good action in a good stock or chassis would perform similarly.

Looks good. Keep it coming! I love my LR bolt 223 Wylde and 75g ELDMs at 3000fps. Super fun and cheap to shoot to 1K.

The goal was to go shooting. And I'm happy to say I have already gone through an entire large Mason jar full of bullets.

Hopefully, we can bring more people shooting. And 223 is the perfect introductory caliber. Second would be the 6br probably.

I'm going to be that guy.......I love you all like brother's sisters but as I
look over them pics, I'm seeing people down range, and rifles on the
bench's with bolts in them, and at least one closed.......Come on people !!!
I like a good photo op myself, but.......

No requirement at our range to remove bolts or open them on cold range. There are painted lines on either side of the benches. You are not allowed inside the lines on a cold range. I'm pretty sure that's safe.
