22-250 bullet help for coyote

I am trying to decide on a good bullet to hunt coyotes with. I been using 50 gr vmax for a few years and have had mix results. Wanting to try a heavier 60 gr bullet. Either a 60 Berger’s or maybe the 60 gr tipped smk. Any one using these bullets have any input thanks.

What twist rate is your barrel? If you have a 14tw which is what nearly all factory made 22-250's have then you'll be much more limited on the bullets you can shoot but if you have something with a faster twist that opens up your options to the bullets you're talking about.

It’s a 1-12

The Berger 60g Varmint bullet is excellent in my 12 twist Savage, sadly the 64g has been discontinued.
Yes mine is a savage. my buddy has a box of 64 I could get. I didn’t realize they were discontinued . Thanks

Also been looking at the 53 gr vmax. Would they preform any better on coyotes then the 50s. Thanks

For short range coyote(under 250 yards) the Speer 52 hp, trash can. The 55 NBT is a go to, Barts 52 ultra, and the Sierra 55 sp all work very well at 22-250 velocities. I want 2" penetration and then fragmentation.
Yes I agreed with you . 2 inches of penetration. I had a bunch of 50 gr vmax low up on the outside especially when hitting the shoulder.

Berger 52 gr. Varmint and 64 gr. Varmint are really good for what you're looking for too. Hit em in the shoulder and there's no exit and they don't even twitch when they hit the ground. As mentioned, the 64 gr. is discontinued, but the 60 gr. should be a nice replacement. I've shot both those bullets out of a 22-250 and now a 22 BR Ackley. I used the 40 gr. V-Max for a short time and had 1/2 get back up and try to run away.

I would try 50gr tnt or a 52gr nosler cc/matchking. I personally don't shoot for the shoulder on coyotes. Straight in the chest or right behind the shoulder with the right bullet it will dump yotes.

I usually don’t shoot for the shoulder but sometimes things happen fast

I’ve shot 4 coyote this year so far fireforming 22-250 into ackley using 53 v max because I’ve never used them and I didn’t want to burn up my supply of Noslers. They are not what I would consider acceptable according to on game performance, they have either destroyed them or they ran way to far compared to the Nosler. Today I heart shot one and it ran 300 frickn yards before it crashed lol. In my opinion the Nosler ballistic tip is far better
