22-250 bullet help for coyote

I’ve shot 4 coyote this year so far fireforming 22-250 into ackley using 53 v max because I’ve never used them and I didn’t want to burn up my supply of Noslers. They are not what I would consider acceptable according to on game performance, they have either destroyed them or they ran way to far compared to the Nosler. Today I heart shot one and it ran 300 frickn yards before it crashed lol. In my opinion the Nosler ballistic tip is far better
Thanks really appreciate the info

Thank you !!
I shoot the 60gr in my 22-250AI 12 twist. With a good load worked up these bullets are accurate as all get out. They deliver almost 100% energy dump. I CANT think of a time I have had full penetration, they blow up inside a coyote like a grenade. But I say almost 100% to side on a possible fluke here and there. Its been 100% for me. I also use them for deer, neck and head shots when I hunt with the 22-250.

If I did a yet another 22-250 again (on barrel #3) id do a 14 twist 22-250AI with the berger 52 varmint FB. Id have to look, but I think I run reloader 15. I cant memorize my loads for everything, I keep data written down for a reason.

Curious as to what state you’re hunting coyotes in.

Lots of replies on here of people using bullets that I wouldn’t touch for killing a coyote and trying to preserve fur but where, how big and how cold of temps and how thick the hide gets is going to play into the performance of a given bullet.

A 53 Vmax will blow up on impact on a late season thick hide coyote where I live.

Early in the year they work better.

Match hollow points for me over the course of the year. They seem to work the best on thin early season and thick skinned late season coyotes.

Thanks for the info. Pretty sure I will go with the 60s

Yes I agreed with you . 2 inches of penetration. I had a bunch of 50 gr vmax low up on the outside especially when hitting the shoulder.
Just a curious question on this post..... when the bullets blow up on the outside like this, do you recover the coyote or do they run off?? WD

Usually recover them after a long tracing job. Or sometimes I have had the drop and get back up and take of after a short time.

I am trying to decide on a good bullet to hunt coyotes with. I been using 50 gr vmax for a few years and have had mix results. Wanting to try a heavier 60 gr bullet. Either a 60 Berger’s or maybe the 60 gr tipped smk. Any one using these bullets have any input thanks.
Try the Sierra 60grn HP #1375 Varmint bullet. It shoots very well out of my Reminton MODEL 7 Predator rifle with RL15 powder. I haven't shot a coyote with it yet, just paper.

Wow! If a 50gr pushed at 3700fps did only "mixed results" on coyotes then you got some tough coyotes. Personally, rather than a heavier bullet with a 1-12 twist I would just forget the 22-250 and go with a 243.
If you get mixed results with that, guess you move up to something in 30-50 caliber.

Actually they are running 3800 out of my gun. Just saying I have killed a truck loads of them with a 204 and a 35 gr Berger. So don’t see the need to go to a 30 or 50
