22-250 bullet help for coyote

Wow! Like a cord of coyotes.

I would suggest a 204 with a 35gr Berger.
No not a cord my truck bed isn’t big enough for a cord. I gave my 204 to my son so he could start hunting with me. So I guess I am screwed

Ive had good luck with the plain jane hornady bthp or any odd lot of custom bullets i have left over in the 50-55gr range. I have some hornadys right now with a cannelure and they demolish coyotes and bobcats out of an AR. They dont leave their tracks

I hear ya.

Seriously though I found some 60gr Hornady Vmax a couple of months ago and decided to try them on my Savage 1-12 twist 22-250. They shot great in mine with
H380.

Thanks for the info.

I am trying to decide on a good bullet to hunt coyotes with. I been using 50 gr vmax for a few years and have had mix results. Wanting to try a heavier 60 gr bullet. Either a 60 Berger’s or maybe the 60 gr tipped smk. Any one using these bullets have any input thanks.
With proper shot placement, any 22 cal bullet will do the job and the coyote won't know the difference.

Coyotes aren't that hard to kill, I've killed one with a bow, he ran about 10 yards and was done.

These were done in by the Sierra 1365 out of my Savage mdl 12, 210-260 yards.

I understand that but some will do a lot better job then others.
Absolutely! If you haven't tried the Barnes 50 Varmint Grenade, you might do so. The killing effect over the V-Max has been considerable in my experience. Seldom get pass-throughs unless shot very close. Rare day a coyote takes these anywhere in the body and runs off.

Coyotes in certain parts of the country are certainly harder to kill than others.

A late season thick skinned coyote in my part of the world is most likely harder to kill than these guys here.
Bullet splash is a pretty real thing and easy to lose a dog when it happens.

Not hard to kill but they certainly don’t give up easy.

Any decent 50-55 grn bullet will do just fine in the 22-250. Forget about the so called splashing, Any damage done will kill them, either on the spot or in short time.
Any shot coyote is a dozen fewer fawns and game birds eaten by one.

A bullet splashing is a mess.

Harder to fix than almost any exit.

Really easy to lose if they run off.

Personally I’d never use a bullet designed to blow up and cause carnage like a guy wants when prairie dogs are in the menu.

Have you ever tried the 1365's?

I do agree they don't give up easily, vent their lungs and it's all over though.

Try to stay away from anything with a lead tip as well. Probably work well but just not something I have a lot of faith in. Usually they seem to exit larger as well.

The 52 sierra has always been a great combo of fur friendly-ness and DRT killing ability for my money Running them somewhere between 3500 and 3700 is where I’ve had good luck.

I know these two bullets are nearly impossible to find but, Sierra 60 gr Varminter and 65 gr Gameking. I have used both out of my 223. For pure drop-dead coyotes 65 Gameking. 60 Grain Varminter has done fairly well also. I once read a Sierra bullet point about the 60 grain being built to perform at 22-250 velocities and tended to act more like a controlled expansion bullet in a 223. I believe it, they don't open as quickly as the 65 Gamekings. Dead coyotes are the end result with either.

Try the Hornady 52 gr BTHP Match, I have shot them for yrs in both a 22-250 and a 220 Swift with very good results. I have been shooting them for over 20 yrs if not more.

I seen on the outdoor channel Les Johnson from Predator Quest shoots them to.

This is not the sexiest bullet out there. But it was made for the 22-250. Hits like a hammer, stable in flight as they come. Never failed me under 350 yds. The Sierra # 1350 55 grain Semi Pointed Soft Point.

The Sierra 63 Gr SMP also shoots like that in my 1:14 twist CZ 550 chambered in 22-250. It’s the most accurate bullet that I’ve found for that gun by a wide margin.
