1000 yard IBS agg Match

Jim I believe there were 80 shooters that paid, don't think they all made it to the match. I should have been one of the ones that didn't make it. My back and neck are all messed up.
But I did win closest to center so I get $80 That pays more than the shoot off that's the third time this year. I believe Montana pays even more at there big match.
But I being the guy that has to be there no matter what is wrong. So with the wife telling me that you are nuts. I tell her she haven't got the right things to understand its a man thing.
Dave I hope you can come up with something that will make the Majority happy. Maybe add$5 for closest to center! I'll be there God willing.

James If they did, that would be the end of there shooting! We haven't had the problem. You only cheat yourself.

Here is my take
The sport has out grown it self as had many other sports
Money and rules being a big factor why we dont have shooters
When you have a rules someone is trying to get around them for a advantage .
That just makes money shine
Take weight for instance
Where can it removed weight . Action. Scope. Or Stock
Everyone one of them cost money .
The ones that can afford it has a advantage over the people who don't.
The rules that should of worked but didn't . This has effected all sports .
The one sport that took advantage of rules was archery they are enjoying record attendence . The have 3 rules arrow speed How the arrow is release And sights.
They increase the class from 7 to 20 or more
The top class is the pro class and it has one of the least amount shooters .
Do we want to continue the path we are on or look at other answers . My vote is look at other options. Larry

I think that it takes a special kind of person to dedicate all that it takes to be competitive and there just aren't that many out there. I know the factory/tactical/practical (whatever you wanna call it) is what got me in the door and hooked. I neglect my wife and kids and sometimes my business to do what I do, it's my choice and it is what it is. Not everyone is willing to make the sacrifices.

I used to trapshoot some and when I first started bench rest, I wondered why there wasn't a classification or handicap type breakdown so that people of similar skill levels were competing against each other. I think if some classification were created there would be certain people sandbagging and trying to cheat the system just like in trap, but maybe where there isn't any money in it, it could stay legitimate and work.

Schedules dictate when I shoot and last year it just worked out, when I could shoot, it was 1000yd. This year it's been 600yd which is my primary interest.

Was mine not a suggestion ? I stated we néed to look at other class to increase shooters . LRVP said the same in a different way . Larry

When money gets involved people look for ways to cheat. Money payouts would be a sure fire death to 1k BR. Look at any sport that has a payout and you will always find that 1% that will cheat
I don't think that is the case. There are quite a few non IBS that pays out. I'm not talking high dollar purses...just a little something to cover match fees or something. A lot pay out for closest to center. Another type of match prints poker cards on rear of target and highest hand wins. All kinds of ways to make it work. It's highly successful at other matches, why can't the IBS adopt it? I can see cheating when you several thousand at stake. But then again...cheating can exist anywhere, lol.

Larry I haven't seen anyone put all ten shots in the X ring yet. So what kind of rules would help you do that? maybe we can get rich being the first to do that. I have a 12 year old Grandson that I would love to see start shooting. I've made the offer a few times but he has no interest in guns. But if I had a father that wanted take me shooting, I'd have been a pain in the ass to him, because I'd be wanting to shoot every day. When I got into this sport, I was 26 years old, I love to hunt. But when I read about shooting 1000 yards in Field and Stream or Out door life. I was hooked!
So I still say you have to want to do it.

All my grandkids shoot and hunt .
My 12 year old grandson shoots very well
At 8 he shot the second largest bird killed at aff bombing range . 147 bird were killed
Last year he killed one of the top birds killed in the state ever .
Last year he shot small 10 shots at our informal IBS type shoot .
I ask him every week if he wants to shoot his first question is what If I say paper I get the same answer No His reasons it isn't fun . This tells me We need to look for ways to put the fun back in the sport . He as me all the time when are we going to have fun shoot
A few have suggested things like that and nobody has listened . Larry

I do like the idea of breaking it up into different classes so a first year or two(or whatever) shooter does not have to compete against the long time veterans. Maybe after you get so many IBS points you move up to another class to compete in?

David, alot of high school and middleschools now have shooting teams, and they dont do benchrest, i guarantee if we reached out to them they could come sometime and see what we do. I think that would get alot of young guns into it,then there mom and dads may also. I know if my children ever do and they better, lol, that I will be there right with them. Joey Combs

I want to say Thank You to everyone that has sent in or posted suggestions and comments .Trust me when I say I have took note of what everyone has said this information will be passed along and I assure you the LRC will do our very best to try to make our sport as popular and as fun as we can with your help .

This post has lasted 3 days and I have received a ton of information and we have keep it pretty positive which is great so keep up the good work we all have the same goal of making our sport better in a world that may not be as friendly to us as it once was but the key is working together and we are doing that.

For anyone that does not shoot IBS 1000 yard or 600 Yard please come out and join us we are a lot nicer in person than some might think LOL!!

Again Thanks for your help
David

Good point Joey the biggest issue with them is our season runs with theirs they just finished up YHEC in PA "Congrats to the PA Team on winning"so if anyone has a team near them now would be a good time to get them to the range .
I know we have a couple from the Forbush team that are planning on coming to Hawks Ridge . They actually got interested in Raton shooting at the White Buffalo last year at YHEC .

Besides him not ever participating at a IBS event, and has claimed he never will, he's always hung up on the LT-Gun weight rule, which is not a problem to stay under at all.
At match weigh-in's, there are many that weigh well under and see many even under 16-lbs.
My own LT-Gun is in a MBR Tooley laminate, 700-Action, aluminum picattiny 20-MOA rail and rings, NF 12-42 BR scope, HV contour 31" barrel, 1" thick rubber recoil pad, Jewel trigger, and aluminum trigger guard. Then for extra's I also have a 7-oz barrel tuner, a 6" delrin front plate bolted to the forend, and a scope level, that total +1-lbs of extra's, and I make weight with change to spare.

Pretty sure when I was 12, that precision accuracy on paper would not have been an appeal to me at all either. The obvious shooting fun factor at younger ages would have been to "shoot stuff" and to shoot about anything other then paper. But by age 40, I could careless about "shooting stuff" and precision shooting and raw accuracy mattered to me.

Bet you could take 1000 young 12-year old's with shooting interest to Benchrest matches and if you could get 1 to continue on and stick with it, would be lucky. On the other hand, 30 years later, and after they've shot and killed about every thing there is, now Benchrest could take on a whole new meaning to them!.!.!

Benchrest is not ever going to die, it just will never be a popular shooting venue. It never has been and I don't believe it ever will be. But what BenchRest will always be, is a group of select people ringing out the very best accuracy that can be had from a cartridge and a rifle and to the current technologies available. Which in return supplies the rest of the shooting industry and shooting sports knowledge of what cartridges and calibers are capable of, and approaches to how to bring out the very best accuracy in rifles, equipment and reloading.

I agree with what Dave Tooley wrote; its envy that lures most to benchrest. And its envy to why benchrest is so widely recogninzed in the shooting industry when ever "best accuracy" is the topic.
