Panda barrel torque

Swapping barrels on a Panda. I have a barrel vise and an older Kelbly's t-handle action wrench. It's the wrench with the bend in it. Since I can't put a torque wrench on the action wrench, about how much torque do you need to use? Moderate? A lot?

I use 80 ft-lb on non glue ins and a good grunt with the T handle on the glue ins. I'd say moderate.

Any good fitting barrel stops rotating around 70-80 ft-lb. Just lean into it.

Get it snug, and then get it to move one more time. That'll be good enough.

It's designed that way to clear the stock, It's not bent by over torqueing.

I have torqued my barrels to 60# for several years now. I have never had one move on me. With a T Handle, get the barrel set and give the wrench a good snap. You wont need more, but you can work harder if you want.

I’ve heard of guys using up to 100 pounds torque on a Panda.
Each to their own but I use 50 pounds on my Bat and never have problems or even hint of a barrel coming loose.

I’ve used 40 and 50 pounds of torque for years. I’ve tried a couple at “hand tight”. Hand tight is a torque number that has declined with my age. These days, I do an old man’s oomph, thinking of when it has to come off.
Never had one come loose.

To Dave's point,
In my experience if the mating surfaces are properly machined a good snap by hand will usually require an action wrench to break loose. To Josh's point your "torque" goes down the older you get. LOL

Hand tighten then one hand slap if all is properly machined. I have had many barrels on my 3 Panda bench rifles in close 30 years. Never had a problem removing one not ever had one loosen on it's own. What my smith Bob Green taught me.

Something that hasn't been stated so far is lube on the threads. I use the green grease that Kelblys sends with their actions. I put a thin line on the threads every 120*. I'll then hand tighten the bbl. to evenly distribute the grease. Then give it two uggas and call it good. Not only have I never had on shoot loose, I've never had trouble removing it when it was time.
