6MM PRS PROJECTILE CHOICES?

What is the consensus here for the optimal 6mm projectile for a PRS rifle?

Will be a Defiance Ruckus with a 6 Dasher barrel if that helps.

I have some 115 DTACS with the nose ring and rebated boat tail. I have some 110 SMK's. I have some Berger 108 BT's.

In my opinion the top 5 most popular bullets would rank as follows:

1: 105 Berger hybrid
2: 109 Berger LRHT
3: 110 ATip
4: sierra 107 closed nose
5: 105 Berger VLD

This would be based off my experience in the southeast. The sport is for the most part, dominated by Berger Bullets. Though Levi Wilson just won the frostbite match with 110 matches kings allegedly.

I had very good results in my 6XC with the DTAC, older 115 with RBT, non coated…. I used 4350 and 205M primers… the 105 hybrid is just and easy bullet to get to shoot very well, especially in the 6BR, 6BRX, 6BRA and the Dasher… and several powders work well, from Varget to H4895. The biggest factor for me was that the Hybrid was always easier to find than the DTAC...

10-4. thanks for the info

is anyone using the 115 DTAC's at all? they have a really nice bc?

i have used the 105 bergers before and they were easy to tune but the bc seemed low
I have tested that 115 DTAC N R as you described with my 243AI. I find the faster the better accuracy. Up around 3200 fps it really worked well and I was testing to see if it performed in the wind any better than the 140 gr. class bullets @ 3000 fps in my 260AI. According to the numbers (ballistic calculator) and the elevation adjustments required it should be much better but on the target it simply was not there. Was checking my numbers with the Garmin so I feel sure I was seeing the truth.

thanks for the info brother

it seems like there may be some indications that the posted bc number may not hold up well then

if i remember correctly, it was around a .620 g1 bc

i have 1000 of the dtac's which are coated and rbt and nose ring to try

i have 500 of the 110 smk to try

i have 3300 of the 108 bergers to try right now

i don't want to be limited to what i have on hand right now

i have been out of competition the last few years and am just now setting my equipment up for next season

I would pick the 108’s. They are notoriously accurate. The reality is that at dasher speeds, the BC increase doesn’t really buy you a whole lot more. The more I play this game, the more I realize that changing bullets and cartridges and loads ect, is pretty much like hitting the reset button. Now I buy components in barrel life quantities and I think I’m better off for it. Just my 2cents from a fellow competitor.

I use 115 Dtacs, Love the heck out of them
1200 yds is almost boring (Plus a good Audible report back at that range)
Multiple first round hits at 600 on 6"x7" targets ususally near center
I've shot them out to 2200 yds and they held 1/4 MOA through the atmosphere all the way to the target
And made visible splash on granite rock. ( No audible though)
1500 Yards is my favorite distance for them, thats where it actually starts to become somewhat challenging gauging wind, but they hold vertical very well and seem true to their BC
------------------------------------
I have not tried their other models I stick with what I know works for me
The cut nose thing was not for me,
I stay with BNC Coated 115's rebated BT, they're the shizzle in my gun
only other bullets worthy are SMK 107's and Lapua 105's
But those dont have the BC and are a waste of time unless DTACS are out of stock
------------------------------------
I drive them fast (3400) in a 6x284 and they can take it, (I have driven them to 3500 in a 34" 1:8 barrel and they held up perfectly, but the rifle was nose heavy so had to cut it down to 30" for balance factor ya know, even with a heavy chassis, it sucks having to push DOWN on the butt just to shoot,
the barrel tipping into the dirt when you get up from prone etc.
I only lost 34-50 fps cutting that 4" off but shaved a full pound so it was worth while even though I hated doing it)
bergers cannot handle what I do and Atips cannot either ( they blow up and never reach target or go wild about to blow up)
Here's a few load workup test targets showing how they shoot for me.
Last pic is 580 yds trying to get the dope on my vertical for that particular load
Lines on the binder paper are 0.275" apart..... giving an accurate measurement of spread
Notice it had less drop than I expected,
I recently went out and shot it again last weekend at 6x7 targets and Dope was right on at 1.8Mils
(Hg was 26.47 (Winter) last wkend as opposed to that target of 26.17 (Summer) which may account for the slight dif in vertical being on now as opposed to being slightly high 5 yrs ago.)
So I notice the BCN Coating has helped to not degrade velocity in over 1000 rounds because that last target was 5 yrs ago.
(Edit, I also Jam them into the lands

Yea, it seems as if the faster the better with the DTACs

certainly, BC and Speed go together like peas and carrots.

Years ago we saw the shift in PRS from the speed king 6’s, to the slower, more consistent 6BR and cousins, where the majority of people have
Settled down into the low to mid 2800fps range.

Even those who have swung back to the Higher BC 25’s & 6.5’s are running at much slower speeds.

I really want the DTAC's to work. Maybe this Dasher barrel will like them. I don't think I can get them going much faster than 2800 fps even pushing them hard. I do have really a good selection of powders to try. I have high hopes for reloader 15.5
Try every powder and primer combo and you will find a magic load,
(W-748 or 760 may be worth trying as also Accurate powders such as 2520, 2700
If you're using burn rates in the Rl-15 range)
Rem 7-1/2's or Wolf Small Rifle Magnums for small rifle is my recommendation
DTACS are excellent bullets despite what others may say.
I know they are not Handmade jewels but for what they are, they are very much worth their price.
if I get a flier it is usually only 1/4 moa out, but as you can see, I dont get many of those with DTACS
--------------
I'd be very interested to see how they shoot in your Dasher at 600, since supposedly the Dasher should beat me out simply due to its having less recoil. I keep reading how some guys get 1/2" (not 1/2MOA) groups with a 6 Dasher at 600 yds
my best so far is 1.5" at that distance so taking that down 1/3 would be phenomenal and worth exploring the Dasher further.

I don't know why people poo poo the DTAC's the way they do.

I will be comparing them to berger 108 bt's and 110 smk's to see which is most consistent once i have all my components on hand.

I have always had the best accuracy pushing them as fast as I can before I start getting ejector swipes and then backing off a little the next node down from that I can find. I'm a big fan of the alpha ocd brass for dasher

Yeah I have seen others dog the DTACS???
I think it's user error, or they are NOT hip to knowing how to JAM a VLD for best results
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jam them in .060" then work backward .005" at a time until you get to .030" off
You will find at least one good node in there somewhere I promise.
Bergers Sound good, I havent tried the 108's but did try the Berger 109's
The 109 worked very well for me also, (held together too)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Try the Barnes 112 Matchburner as well, seriously, very good for the price especially if on sale like at Midway.
I was having bad results with those until I cranked it down to 3300 fps and they were fine after that so should be good in your Dasher.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would not have cranked it down but for a good year or so DTACS were unavailable so I had to try every other bullet out there and experiment with them all just to be able to shoot this gun..
Which meant changing velocities just to please the bullet jackets.
(Berger Hunting 115's were the worst of all of them FYI, I actually had a little convo with Berger about this and they basically told me, you are exerting them past their intended design purposes)
DTACS you can do anything you want to them lol
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Berger 95 VLD Target was another I tried and like them well out to 600 yds.
There was a time when only those were the highest BC bullet available due to every one jumping on the Dasher bandwagon, and even those I had to find on Gunbroker.
It was so frustrating I almost switched to 7mm because it seemed nobody was using those yet and 180's to 184's were all over the place

Yea, I was relating to accuracy with that remark.

part of the switch was also because cartridges like the 6x284 are considered too much of a barrel burner.
With Reports of being burned out in 1000 rounds etc.
And that idea has not been corrected, (Good for me, bad for them)
The new coatings on the bullets helps tremendously with throat erosion.
I will measure my throat erosion this week compared to a new chamber and report back here
since I have not done so for awhile. I know I'm past 1000 rounds
My last 6x284 went 1900 rounds and still shot well but velocity had fallen off
My velocity has not fallen off yet and is holding at 3400 fps
But for my first 200 rounds of load development, I kept measuring, and it was not chaning so I stopped measuring.
-----------------------
Conslusion, A 6x284 does not HAVE to be.....a barrel burner if treated right
(But Shhhhh.... don't tell the other guys, let them all keep shooting under 3000 fps)
I havent tried the Tungsten Disulphide yet to get a comparison but can attest the Boron Nitride works and works very well for my hot rod.)

Take a look at vapor trail’s automated bullets vtac103.
$$$$$$$
Is their lower BC of .507 compared to .620
and nearly DOUBLE the price of DTACS
worth their supposed better consistency?
It is also discouraging their lowest quantity offering is you must buy 1000 for $650
When you can get 500 Dtacs for $190 and at least experiment before committing to a large purchase.
------------
Not being a smart alleck, because I have read a few guys rave of them but mostly out to 600 which would make more sense
Many of us using the High BC 6mm's are just warming up at 1000 before progressing out to go to work

The automated line is less than a Berger and bc doesn’t matter if a bullet doesn’t shoot well for your rifle….
Some very successful PRS fellas shoot bullets with a lesser bc…
In any event it is a bullet option that has worked well in my PRs rifles

i have been wanting to test out barrel life to see if the coated dtac's help with throat erosion any
