115 Dtacs

You are correct this is being done with a AR gas gun, that's the other part of the equation, people say it can not be done. However it has already been done. Just not by me. I want to do it occassionally.

Dont recall the numbers, distance to lands, or jam, have it figured and recorded downstairs, I have some mags that I can load longer than book length, and have Bob sled I can single feed with, problem is limited pressures and figuring out a safe load.
Thank you.
Then there are probably better bullet choices that won’t use up as much boiler room unless you single load and throat specifically for the DTAC.

Thank you to all who have replied to my question. :)
Nobody had anything bad to say about the DTACs,
I believe it is now time to move from computer to reloading room, and start working on the few empty factory cases I have. We shall see what we shall see.!

Thank you again.!

I think the biggest thing people are missing is to not worry about top speed. Find a slower accuracy node and let that bullets efficiency do what it needs to. I shoot a relatively low pressure load with 33.7 gr. of H4350 behind a 115 DTAC to get me to 2820 out of my 6mm Dasher. That'll save barrel life and give you great ballistics.
FWIW, longer barrel life works for accuracy. As many have stated over the years, each barrel has unique tendencies of it's own. The longer you work with one set of tendencies, the more you'll have a known accuracy level.
BTW, barrel wear is exponential the hotter you load.

Very tricky wind today, tailwind at 45 degrees to range, 16 mph gusts. No cleans were shot by any of 10 shooters. I labeled the bullets in the saved name. The duo produced a 445-19X and the next highest score was a saum with 444-19X.

The DTACs won match 1 (by creedmoor), the A-Tips won match 2, and the A-Tips lost match 3 on x count, with a ship anchor 9, one on.

The brass pressure is about the same looking at primers and the velocity spread between the two is evident, and that’s based on both weight and BC.

Edit. After the post all targets were corrected to yards instead of meters and the final one to .243 cal., and nothing changed score wise on any of them.

I have shot every flavor of the DTACs. My favorite is still the old style no rebate, no nose ring
uncoated. Most everyone at my club has switched to some sort of 6BR improved with 105 hybrids.
The BRs get better barrel life than my XC. They don't give out best barrel life trophies though......

Hello All

Have read many articles, conversations, and posts from those who have tried the Tub 6mm dtacs. Sounds like a love hate relationship. You guys are one way or the other. From those that did not like them, were they some of the first batches out causing the problem. From what I read most were consistent, then a flyer . Did things change later on in the production run.

From those that liked them. Why what were you comparing them to.

I know now he has several 6 mm projectile. One with nose ring. One a 6mm with RBT , or some such thing, basically a different angle on the boat tail., without the nose ring.

From those shooting the 1000yds plus what is the majority consensus on the Dtacs. Dont consider the price as objectionable Readily available. I need to do more research, however what does the experienced majority here have to say.

Feel free to PM me if you are shy about making on opinion public.

Thanks to all.
They are kinda in a class of their own, being so heavy. I don't have any issue getting 3000+ out of a 6x47 Lapua with N160 with the normal bare 115 DTACs. My normal load averages 3,016 on this current 27" barrel (sample size 121 rounds). I have found the stated BC on the last 1,500 or so of them iv'e ordered to be conservative actually. All of them I've tried are the newer RBT design. Honestly, for out past 1K, they are hard to beat, not really any good alternatives. The 103 Vapor Trails group way better at 100 with H4831-SC, but the 115 DTACs shoot inside of them past 1K. One negative... Lot to lot consistency in length (only length though) is really bad. Iv'e seen as much as a .025" difference. Nosering would theoretically solve that, something I intend to try at some point.

My experience ( shooting prone with sling n irons) with DTACs is that they are an exceptionally accurate bullet and very dimensionally consistent (I have the older version).
I started shooting them in a 6XC. I wanted to shoot them around 3050 fps n take advantage of the high bc. You can do that in the XC case but u have to run it hard n brass life ( for me) was a bit short.
The 243 size (243SLR) case is imho , a better choice. U shoot at 3050 fps and the extra case capacity achieves this velocity with lower pressures. The larger case also give u the option of slower powders (H1000, VV165) that help extend bbl life. My alternative to the DTAC is the Berger 105 Hybrid Launched at 3150 fps.

DTACs in a BR size case is a bit of a mystery to me. Not enough boiler room for that heavy of a bullet. The BR case is ideal for 105-107 gr. bullets. A Sierra 107 sorted n pointed is an excellent bullet out of my BRX.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if I had not chosen the 6mm Competition Match when Robert came out with the 6SLR, I would have been shooting it with a 115 DTAC.
