Crackers

You all realize that the op is from the United Kingdom and their terms are slightly different than ours. Him and his friends are probably sitting at the pub laughing.
Perhaps. But "cracker" doesn't seem anything especially untoward across the pond. It can refer to entertaining talk (cracking jokes), loud, bragging talk, or dry, crisp biscuits. It's more pejorative meanings are usually used on this side of the Atlantic

Speed of sound changes with temps. Ammo velocity changes with temps, too.

When it's colder the same ammo will on average be slower. It will speed up as temps increase.
My shooting buddy and I noted this last week while tuning with some Eley Tenex. We were using a Garmin Zero.
We started at 28 degree and finish an hour later at 32 degree. That subtle temperature increase increased our speeds 10+fps. I know one test does not have a lot of statistical significance but we both were surprised to see this happen. Accuracy appeared to remain consistent in group sizes though.

When I got so far the other day I realised I forgot the Garmin chrono..
I just tried for groups as the wind was less..
I'll take it with me next time as I can't see the temperature changing much..
I will take my other 22lr with me to see if it will give muzzle cracks on the same ammo..
I don't think it will bit I maybe wrong..
I'm sure in the winter last year I did get some muzzle cracks with eley match..
Probably the only way to know for sure..
Crackers is the terminology over here for muzzle cracks..
Usually our terminologies are the same as yours..
The more I communicate with some American friends the more it surprises me that our sayings etc are the same..
I too like crackers with cheese but I prefer to smear a little butter on the cracker first to help hold the cheese on it when biting into it..

My preferred cracker is a water biscuits..
The word cracker is also used to refer to somebody going mad
Their bloody crackers ;)

Maybe the temperature has dropped so has the speed of sound but the 22lr ammo is still running near its intended speed which takes its through the sound barrier.
In warmer temps the sound barrier is greater and the 22lr ammo isn't reaching the velocities break the sound barrier to cause muzzle cracks..

You can say what you want about ai but goggle has been here a long time. I've spent the better part of the last 2 days looking for information and haven't come close yet. So much for ai.

I chambered a eley match and a centre x in the CZ457 LRP and they get rifling marks on the bullets. Not something ive checked on my CZ452 varmint 20241226_122242.jpg20241226_122213.jpg

Happens with cz mtr chambers and Match chambers in general. It's referred to as engraving the bullet. Unless you can't extract an unfired round it's nothing to worry about. Carry a cleaning rod to knock the stuck unfired rounds out of the chamber when it's required.

Does your MTR prefer a particular brand of ammo..?
This info may save me money and chasing rainbows..!!
