Post Office is overwhelmed

I have sent some packages out to people from the beginning of the week They are still sitting in the P/O according to the tracking numbers.
Talked to the Post Master and they stated due to the storms a huge backlog is staged and with Columbus Day on Monday.
The backlog grows.
I understand this. So please all be patient waiting for your stuff.
Ditto here, ordered a barrel from Bartow Florida, post office there received it Sept. 25th, just got it yesterday, I had already wrote it off, assumed it was underwater, or lost, looks like a fresh repackaged tube, barrels fine! Prayers to those in Florida and North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, all affected by the recent storms

you all complain about the USPS but what do you expect when you pay them a non living rage. This is just the beginning of the trouble with the Americas work force. No one wants to work. Between the trust fund babies and all the other entitled people. The US government has to hire all these people because they have no choice because of the people running our country and their policies. I would never send a package or anything else, if I had a choice ,with the USPS. Look at the volume of junk mail. That should tell you something is wrong
Please don't tell me you think the Postal workers aren't getting a high enough wage? Or a living wage?

I know you spelled it rage, But I assume you meant wage. They are always asking for more money and they are always asking for more funds to shore up their retirement. People have no clue what the majority of Americans are living on, Which is a lot less.

I have nothing against Postal Workers and I am grateful for the stuff they do for me, I love getting cool stuff in the mail. But most postal jobs are unskilled labor and they get paid very well considering their pay and benefits.

I don't know about anywhere else but the quality of people working in my local USPS is pathetic. If they were paid based on their productivity, they'd all be on food stamps.

I sent a package from NY to Hawaii. It didn't get there in 3 weeks. I stopped off at the PO to speak to the Postmaster. She came out from the back with a big attitude before I even explained why I was there. She tells me that my parcel was sent by the least expensive method and that the box is probably floating around the ocean on a ship somewhere. As she walks away, she said, "if it doesn't turn up in ANOTHER 3 WEEKS, check back".

Even though I use the USPS once in a while and I like the people in the USPS building I go to, the rest of it is a joke. The people in my USPS building are older and do their job adequately, however the delivery personnel are younger and they sucks.

Thanks for pointing out my mis-typed letter. Where I live you can not live on $21 an hour. A one bedroom apt is $2000 a month The price of food goes up everyday. The postal workers hear work very long hours and are over whelmed. You would have to be pretty desperate to work there now. If the USPS structured their work force like the UPS or contracted like FedX maybe they would all make more money. 20 years ago the Postal drivers did use their own cars and where paid more in terms of inflation. They spent their life as a mailman, an honorable job. Not any more. I spent most of my life as a masonry contractor and when my costs went up I had to raise my price too.. I would never want to be a postal worker because I could not do it. I think it would be a hard job to do every day. I have had the same problems as all of you and that is why I use UPS to FedX or have money or checks use direct deposit to my bank or go pick it up. Never, THE CHECKS IN THE MAIL. Look what factory workers make now. A lot more than $21 an hour. If you can support a family on $21 an hour where you live, that's great. More money, how dare they ask for more money. They don't need a car. It's only 130 miles to a big city. A house here is $650,000 avg. It was very different just 30 years ago. More ranches and regular people.

$21.00 is a starting wage, They have excellent benefits that is mostly covered by the postal service. They get every holiday off, They have lot's of paid sick leave, A pension, Annual cost of living increases, Low co-pays for medical.

I know my mail carrier works hard, But so do most people around here, And they do it with no paid holidays, No paid sick leave, They have to pay for medical insurance out of their paychecks, And it's a lot of money to pay for family medical insurance yourself. Every place I worked for you didn't get a raise unless you asked for one, And most times you had to let them know you found a higher paying job and were leaving before they would do anything about your pay.

Houses here are very expensive too, I don't know what to say about that other than I am very sorry for the younger folks because it's going to be very tough for them, Much tougher than it was for us. Nobody has had their wages double since covid, Even though everything has doubled in price. When I hear the living wage thing it always makes think of democrat ideals.

Ask the Truck driver, Or the Mechanic, Or the Construction worker about hard work and low pay without benefits. I once went to a Dinner that was put on by the local Fire Department begging for a tax increase, One of the Fireman had the huevos to brag that he was there on overtime, Made me sick to my stomach.

I will have to agree with you that $20.00 is not enough to live on though, What to do about it I don't have an answer for you.

If being a mailman is so good why is there such a high turn over? Think about doing the job right. That is a lot of responsibility. Contractors can still make a living because they have to raise their prices. But we are getting pushed out by less expensive labor because no one wants to work in the trades or at all. So now almost every manual labor job is done by immigrants around here. Just like the Irish, Chinese and all the other immigrants that came to America. Adapt or get out of the way. You can choose to do any job you want. Go to college, pay your dues, be a veteran and go for free. If you want it bad enough you will find a way. Just like getting old, it's not for every one. Keep moving and don't look back. I agree with you about the Fire Department but for once they did have to work when half our forest burnt down because some moron camping in the forest was burning his toilet paper because he did not have a shovel when the wind was gusting to 50 mph. Maybe they didn't work much. They had to just watch it burn in that wind.

I bet you had all immigrant labor in your masonry business and I'm sure you paid them all a living wage with benefits and a pension right?

And don't tell me you didn't have immigrant workers, Because your competition has all south of the border workers too.

That guy didn't have to burn his toilet paper, He could have left it for a bear to eat, I've heard they do that in the woods!

Yep people don’t realize what they have with benefits and retirement. Go price some health insurance if your self employed.

I used to work with a guy who had a lot of funny sayings. Here's one of them:

"There's a reason that people around here don't get paid what they are worth - minimum wage laws prohibit it!".
You know that there is some truth to that saying. :D

If my PO did that to me, I would not be whining about it, I would just stop going there and go to UPS or FedX.
FedEx in Oregon is like the Sargasso Sea. Stuff goes into the Gresham center and then takes days or weeks to make it out.
UPS screwed the pooch so many times, I haven't tried them in over a decade.
They all have logistics issues.

A few things some people don't talk about with USPS. Most people don't start out full time with them. For a year they are considered part time before career benefits kick in and I believe that is variable. They don't always get treated very nicely, some areas it's terrible dependant upon management. They don't have Sundays and all holidays off anymore as they often have to work those days to deliver Amazon packages.
There is more but some of these things are why the turnover rate is so high. In my area if you get hired part time under a 20hr a week job description, they will force you to work sometimes full time hours. If you can't or refuse you are fired even if you are a great worker. This is crazy as some people can only work part time, that's why they wanted a 20 hour job. Why would you not want to keep someone that is trained, good worker and fulfills the job description they were hired under?
This is in Iowa, my son works for the USPS in Texas and his management is outstanding. They care about the workers and try to treat them well. They still battle low starting pay but at least they have good coworkers. That's out of his post office, doesn't speak to others.
As far as Amazon and others go, makes me mad that they flip delivery over to the USPS. Now when you order from someone because of Prime and the delivery date listed, it means nothing. The last 3 orders for me have been several days late and finished delivery was with USPS. That automatically seems to add several days. It does tell you that USPS must be the cheapest route if some of the other carriers finish delivery with them.

Actually I did not hire immigrant labour. I had one tender that I taught and now has his own business. When I did piece work for other contractors they supplied the tenders, again no immigrants. When I contacted a commercial job, I had a pool of masons to pick from. Again, no immigrants. I did do work for a contractor friend of mine that had a man from Honduras that worked for him and he did help tend for us on his jobs. A very honorable man. But to answer you question, NO I never hired immigrant labor. Now that's all there are on MOST jobs. As I got older it was just me and my tender doing custom rock fire places and flat work made from Idaho Gold Quartzite and other colors, but lots of the gold. A very beautiful stone. We were very busy doing jobs for rich people, and did not have to break our backs anymore, it was great and we both made a lot of money. That's sort of my point. If you do really quality work, you can name your price and not kill yourself. You don't need immigrant labour. Not much old school stone work done any more. Some of the most beautiful stone work I have ever seen was done in the 30's by the men working for the CCC. stone walls on our road systems and stone bridges. They had pride in their work. I don't know why you would assume because I made my living as a mason that I hired immigrants. There are still contractors that do not hire immigrant labour but you do have to pay for the job to be done right and most people don't know the difference or care. Just like every think else.

For $19 a year you can pay UPS to upgrade your account with their CHOICE program so they don't send it to USPS. I know WTF but.... The turn over rate here is so bad, it's better than not getting your package or what ever is coming USPS from UPS. They all got there hand out. I don't have a mail box just a gang box a mile away. Some other person has the same numerical address on a different street, so the mailman gets them mixed up often. I get a notice mail is delivered, go down there and no mail.

On this forum UPS is bad, USPS is bad, FedEx sucks. It’s amazing anything gets delivered.

I mailed 4 or 5 monthly payments for bills for 50 years. They all arrived. Now I pay bills online.

I get 2 or 3 packages a week from Amazon most delivered by USPS, they all arrived, one out of a hundred was late by a day or two. That’s okay, I’m not ordering organs for transplant.

I have tracked a FedEx package that flew over my house 4 times but it showed up unharmed.

And I live in an out of way place hundreds of miles from a big city.

In the 80's I was a tender for a while and that's what we did was build nice fireplaces up in mountain communities, We did some block walls and such too, But mostly cool fireplaces. I learned pretty quick that shoveling sand and pushing wheelbarrows up hills and ramps wasn't what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
I can't blame the immigrants for wanting to come here, That's what I would do if I was in that Cartel infested schitt-hole too. I'm glad you were able to make a living without having to hire them. My brother was a hardwood floor mechanic, The immigrants have infiltrated all the trades that Americans used to do. That's one thing I like about where I live, It's happening here, But there is a very small percentage of non citizens here.
You go to the mom and pop fast food places, The car washes, Just about everything here it's high school kids working there, Not border crossers.

Edit to add:

I forgot to mention, Like you said about the CCC. There is a beautiful Campground built by the CCC in the 30's up above Leeds Utah that has very nice Buildings that were made from rock they gathered up from the surrounding areas and it's like you said, Wow! What beautiful Craftsmanship! That's what is lacking today, People don't take pride in their work at all. Not everyone, But most just don't care.

My mail carrier puts my mail in neighbors boxes and I get others mail too. That used to be a big no no and mail carriers would get into serious trouble for that and they would only do it once. Not anymore.
