Tack Driver 5

That pretty well covers it. That, and you can’t get that much weight on the pin where the spring
It all comes down to energy delivered at the primer. On my favorite Score Rifle, I have about 25 pounds of static spring pressure and a full .250 inch travel. But shooting fast is not paramount in Score shooting.
In Group, especially in a Match like the Tack Driver, you have to be able to get shots down range in a favorable condition. That means being able to cycle the bolt as effortlessly as possible. That means (in most cases), a light spring. In order to gain the inertia back, you use a much heavier firing pin.

I am simply copying some one else’s idea. I like copying things that work.
At the range today, my 6PPC shot quite well. Here are the best groups I shot in some breezy but readable conditions.View attachment 1590371View attachment 1590372View attachment 1590373View attachment 1590374
Now put it in a box and ship it !!!
That way you will quit messing with it.
Tomball is a tough range anytime.

Bart, I have always said that a dedicated Group Shooter has a better chance shooting great in Score than a dedicated Score Shooter has shooting great in Group.

By the way, judging by the equipment list, the UBR has been fairly successful in, while not killing the 30 caliber, has greatly diminished it’s use in this Format.

Yes Jackie. Four to five years ago the 30br was still very popular in UBR.
Cost and availability of bullets and powder pushed many to the smaller calibers. With no advantage to be had for the bigger caliber it's an easy choice.

The one on the right decaps and hits the base hard. The second is a die I built that full length sizes the case and incorporates a neck bushing. The one on the left is a modified Redding competition bullet seater.
This setup performs the basic functions of sizing the brass properly and seating the bullets straight.
Thanks.

This event is coming together nicely. We have 120 shooters registered from 17 different states and Canada! Talk about a diverse group of shooters all assembled in one place? THIS IS THE PLACE! There will be many members of the Hall of Fame in both score shooting and group shooting as well as 30+ National champions from Group, Score, 600 yard and 1,000 yards not to mention the great groundhog champions along with many other accolades. I will switch everything over to Tack Driver 5 live results starting match day. Who will be following the live results? From what states will you be watching? Excitement is building! See you all soon!

Seeing as how looking at the results is as close to shooting as I can come this year, I'll be watching.
According to the Dr. end of January may be the soonest I can shoot. Surgery scheduled for 9/24. Rotator tear sucks.

I am waiting for the weather to cool before I decide between my 6PPC shooting my own 68 grn BT or my 6BRA shooting Barts 80 grn Dominators. It has been exceptionally hot and I am betting on the weather in Orangeburg to be in the mid ‘70’s rather than mid 90’s.
Both seem to be shooting rather well. I am hoping as things cool down they will continue too.

As for me, I am kinda going through a health thing. Many of you might remember that back in 2007 I experienced 100% kidney failure. At that time, it was determined I lost about 40% of each kidney. I darn near died. Over the years, I have probably lost about another 1% per year. What that means is I am now in stage 4 kidney failure. They are still working, but my Creatinine number is now running at around 2.7, all the time.

Look that up. You can see why I feel like a pile of warmed over crap most of the time.

There is really not much to be done about it, the main goal is to avoid anything that can hurt my kidneys even more. I cannot take any Insaid pain relievers. That pretty much limits me to Tylenol for any of the aches and pains. I also cannot take any blood pressure meds that work with the renal system. I am in a trial now with Nifedipine, which also makes you feel like crap., ,

Anyway, I am really looking forward to the Tack Driver.

Jackie, I wish you feel better soon.
The body has incredible ways to recover and compensate. And you are doing the right thing; live healthy to live long.

On a lighter note, are you noticing any real difference in drift between the 68 and 80gr or does it get muddied up in the tune?
