Tack Driver 5

if any body remembers, the Rifle I shot last year at Tack Driver 4 was in a stock that while quite functional, looked like it was in the final stages of decomposition.

So in the mean time I finished up the rough body work, getting the lines right, and had a friend who paints prime it, slick it out, and paint it with base coat/clear.

Now, it’s in no danger of winning “best in show”, but from five feet away it looks presentable. The picture is a before and after.IMG_0038.jpegIMG_0030.jpeg

It is still the same Bat Neuvo Drop Port with a Bartlien gain twist 6PPC, I have added a new 15x55 Night Force Competition Scope. The tuner is still my own “snubber” design.

This low profile stock rides the bags quite well. One thing I am working on is a lighter firing pin spring so the rifle is not disturbed in the bags so much with a heavy weight on the rear of the firing pin to help make up for the lost inertia. As best I can tell, will involve making a new firing pin To gain the length that sticks out the back of the shroud, boring out the back of the shroud to accommodate it, and probably a few other things. I figure to machine the weight from Tungston.

I think this is what we were seeing on Wayne’s rifle last year. If anybody has any info on this I would appreciate it.IMG_0035.jpeg

Nice collection Wes! Those decisions are a good problem to have, that's for sure.
There are not too many matches we spend a whole year thinking about it, talking about it and prepping for it.
And only 5 weeks, ...it's finally finally here!
George, do you still have that same barrel with which you shot that phenomenal group at TD IV?

Jackie, yes. The barrel was set aside after TD4 and have just put it back on.
Crossing my fingers it will shoot anywhere as good as it did last year.
It is showing promise but you’ll never know until going for record.

How is your PPC doing?
Looks really cool by the way!

I am going to shoot the 6PPC tomorrow. I have modified the firing pin assembly by getting the spring weight down for easier bolt lift while adding a tungston weight to the back to increase the firing pin inertia by a considerable amount.

I would like to thank Alex Wheeler for his advice on the best way to achieve this.

I have to decide soon whether I will shoot my 6BRA with the Barts 80 grn or my 6PPC with my own 68 grn BT.
