And most of the flags for the first 100 yards.
I am just trying to get the equipment as good as I can, having full knowledge of what it takes to be competitive in this Format. That is sweet Jackie. You guys are serious about this shit. I really better start practicing at 300.

However, I am still the weak link in the chain. It’s amazing how brain dead I can get in that seven minutes between “commence fire” and ”cease fire”.
I am going to shoot the 6PPC tomorrow. I have modified the firing pin assembly by getting the spring weight down for easier bolt lift while adding a tungston weight to the back to increase the firing pin inertia by a considerable amount.
I would like to thank Alex Wheeler for his advice on the best way to achieve this.
I have to decide soon whether I will shoot my 6BRA with the Barts 80 grn or my 6PPC with my own 68 grn BT.

Interesting, what's the theory for moving firing pin mass aft of the spring and/or shroud?I am going to shoot the 6PPC tomorrow. That pretty well covers it. That, and you can’t get that much weight on the pin where the springShort lock time is not so critical on a Benchrest rifle since it sets on bags. Theory is the heavier pin delivers more energy to the primer thus improving ignition. Perhaps will also allow a lighter spring thus improving bolt lift. Less upset in the bags. Quicker recovery. Less time needed to fire a group.
I think an additional benefit will be less vibration.Short lock time is not so critical on a Benchrest rifle since it sets on bags. I am intrigued by the format, and it sounds like a fun match. What targets are used for the score portion and the group portion? I used to shoot a 300 meter match in "F" class (we used the ISSF target) and always enjoyed it. My rifle for that was essentially an old school Unlimited BR rifle in 308. I still have it. The timing for this match isn't great but I might be able to make it work. WH
Nice shooting. How about the three presses? Are they full-length sizing, mandrel, and seating …or some other combination? That pretty well covers it. That, and you can’t get that much weight on the pin where the spring
It all comes down to energy delivered at the primer. On my favorite Score Rifle, I have about 25 pounds of static spring pressure and a full .250 inch travel. But shooting fast is not paramount in Score shooting.
In Group, especially in a Match like the Tack Driver, you have to be able to get shots down range in a favorable condition. That means being able to cycle the bolt as effortlessly as possible. That means (in most cases), a light spring. In order to gain the inertia back, you use a much heavier firing pin.
I am simply copying some one else’s idea. I like copying things that work.
At the range today, my 6PPC shot quite well. Here are the best groups I shot in some breezy but readable conditions.View attachment 1590371View attachment 1590372View attachment 1590373View attachment 1590374
The one on the right decaps and hits the base hard. The second is a die I built that full length sizes the case and incorporates a neck bushing. The one on the left is a modified Redding competition bullet seater.Nice shooting. How about the three presses? Are they full-length sizing, mandrel, and seating …or some other combination?
