Endless, or of no concern. What's the brass life looking like on the 222 anyway?
My first bench rifle made by Ed Ferguson in 1975 for me ( still have it) shoots very well.
I’m strictly a 100 yard shooter.
Then after many enjoyable years I got a 6BR. Really superb. But I’ll skip to my point. I then got a 30BR. That’s the winner hands down. I’m only interested in group size. The 30 will never shoot a bad group. Bit of a breeze? The 222 can’t compete.
The 6 is somewhere in between. However give me a cloudy day with no wind that 222 will be a contender. Not obsolete by any means. But if I had to shoot a 5 shot group for $1,000.00 and can take only one rifle it will be the 30BR. That 222 is old school. Shell holder bolt face and sleeved action. Hart barrel. Since it was my first and built by a superb craftsman and teacher, I have a real soft spot for it.
The 30BR just never does anything wrong. No fliers, just always a matter of ME!
My best group ever ( so far) is .103
The 6 falls in between the two.
All of this is my opinion but I’d be pleased to post targets from all three.
All 3 are really fine and I’ve let sentiment come in to my answer. One’s my first and the other my best, thus the 6 probably doesn’t get a fair shake.
And 1975 was a long time ago but I had 3 fabulous gentlemen ( all deceased now) take the time to teach a comparative youngster who was brand new to bench shooting.
Been shooting since around 1953.
All of this is my experience and my opinion.
