Electric Cars -- anyone own one?

What secondofangle said. As citizens we have to use cash accounting, the government should do the same. Most of this mess is caused by the deep state.

Henry would have never sold a Model T if a fancy team of carriage horses were cheaper!

For those mentioning moving to a free state.....That's all well and
good but, laws go thru the the US House of Representatives. Not
enough people will move out to countermand the huge block of
liberals from the state of Califorinia. They have a much larger
singing choir......Now not only EV cars....."YOU WILL BE" forced to
buy things such as lawn mowers which are already being banned
in several states to be sold. So for you New Yorkers....just hop the
border into Pa, and we will gladly supply you with your needs.

Folks, it's not just about cars.....They want the fossil fuel engines
gone.....The next question is, who are "They". ??? Topic for another
time and board forum.....

Let’s not confuse wording with actual results of those words.

When the president of the United States, can issue an executive order defining the percentage of what type of vehicle powered by what type of energy used, that is by most people’s thinking a mandate.

When the EPA can define and also Inact laws concerning the emission requirements of the same vehicles, you have to ask yourself a simple question. Do the words making something mandatory, qualify as a mandate?

Currently there is a standing executive order that 60% of all vehicles sold by 2030 will be zero emissions. The EPA has written emission laws raising that number to 67%. The goal it to completely eliminate tail pipe emissions by 2050. No one gets to vote on this directly, it is by decree.

As for ignoring what happens in California, when it comes to vehicles, be very aware. The buying power of California has dictated what the auto manufacturers can sell and will produce for close to 50 years. In the past manufactures would build both federal and California compliant vehicles. That is a thing of the past. Now I am not aware of more than a few vehicles produced, that would not be considered heavy duty, that is not 50 State compliant. All cars meet California standards.

California adopted a time line in 1990, Federal government mirrored that time line in 1992. We are approaching the designated dates now, with no hope of meeting those “mandates”.
This is the panic. Caused by people ignoring the writing on the wall for the last 50 years.

A zero emission tailpipe? Did you ever read about all the dangerous chemicals in batteries that will be buried in the ground. The battery factories will use electric made by coal fired power plants.

I read yesterday that in some states with very cold weather the Tesla charging stations quit working.

Has anyone still capable of remembering when US auto makers ignored the foreign car manufacturers offing all the mid size and compact gas mizers, while they kept their models bases on bigger more gas guzzling models their priority???

You remember when the main job market in America driven by the auto industry took a crap, jobs dried up, layoffs ran rampant, and everything ties to the automaker was crippled, while foreign makers zoomed past them outselling them all.

In 2015 the US big 3 made it clear they were going to go electric, with no mandates! I'm sure because they are smart enough to learn from history,,,,, something we don't even teach anymore.

WHY?? Because it's obvious that's what consumers are asking for! That is what foreign manufacturers are doing, and if the US manufacturers don't, and listen to those that are their smallest, and most fading market, they will SUCK HIND TIT AGAIN!

Make no mistake I ain't driving an EV. But I have had battery powered grinders, drills, saws, and impacts for several years! Why, they are the best option, with as much or more power than corded.

I gave away my gas mower, blower, weedeater, chain saw, ice auger, and hedgetrimmers over 5 years ago,,, why, because I bought much handier, better battery operated tools. Less maintenance, lighter wieght, quieter, not near as filthy to operate, and just plain easier!

But American auto manufacturers made it clear in 2015 made it clear, all three of them in a news conference long before any mandates, the direction they are going. I won't be buying one, but it's pretty obvious what the future generations are asking for, and that is what those car makers seen coming a decade ago!

That is probably because China (and India) are now making nearly everything and we are now making almost nothing.

Danny
Wow, I don't know where your living Danny, but Most of the country is booming, Ohio is building more new manufacturing plants bringing production here from overseas, and we are using out of state construction workers to build em because we don't have enough to man all these new construction projects.

Almost every factory, steel mill, retailer, restraunt, service supplier you drive by has banners out begging for help! That's from Dayton to Gallopolis and Ironton to Toledo.

Been that way here and in Indiana, and Michigan where I roam for the last 2 1/2 years. Where is it your talking about. I guess I'm just lucky here where I live and travel?

That's OK Steve, to each their own.
I just can't fantom living in Arizona and not owning a pickup or a jeep or even a 4x4 Taco.
Maybe one day your significant other will let you buy one.
It was sarcasm. I own a truck. I also own many guns, 2 stroke weed eaters, and a lead fuel burning aircraft. Not owning an item because another owns one is rather absurd.
